So the other day I was all about showing how capable and helpful I am. I was holding up the old range hood that we were removing and waited for DH to fetch a certain tool from the basement so he could disconnect the little cover plate that hides the wires. o.k. la la la I am bored already.
While waiting it seemed to me that I could just slip the end of this butter knife under the edge to pry the cover down right?? I am not crazy enough to stick a metal object anywhere near live wires am I??
So I ever so gently poked the very end under the rim and BAMM!!!
SPARKS flew over my head! A few loud pops, the butter knife went flying outa my hand!
I stood there stunned....was I alive? Had I been shocked? I did not feel anything except the pounding of my heart, no tingling in my hands or anything. I felt all over my head, no singed hairs. I think I dodged a bullet....how stupid of me?!
DH came up in a hurry looking worried, then saw my ashen face and said..." what'd ya do? " I showed him the knife. He went back down and turned off the power and politely banished me from the kitchen.
Here is what the knife looked like front and back. This thread is currently associated with: N/A

Oh, WOB, I'm so glad you are okay.
Sparky my electrician husband has taught me never, ever to touch anything like that!
He's been shocked many, many times, though - sometimes I don't even want to hear his stories.
I'll ask, for example, why in the world he would work with live wires/power quite often (when he has options to turn it off)? His answer: it's more of a challenge that way. (gah!)

Oh, my dear Walks.....thank God you 're okay! If it helps, I know I've done dumb things like that, but have only been shocked once. Lesson learned, right, my Friend?

Good reminder and Lesson learned always turn the breaker off in the electrical panel before doing a repair.

OMG walks......seriously....I don't mean to laugh but I can just see you with Frankenstein hair and smoke raising from your head. I'm soooo very happy that you're ok and nothing serious happened, well with the exception of the cost of the burial for what looked like a perfectly good butter knife.........
