Speaking of seeds. Do you remember the little FREE packets of gardening seeds you use to get in your mailbox years ago? I was always excited to get them and try the flower ones out in the front part of the house (it wasn't a garden by any means, just a little flower patch) But I do remember getting them and I do remember they were FREE!

I remember them, too!! Only because you mentioned it, Tara, but I do recall receiving them and like Walks, trying them out somewhere! Does anyone remember which company sent them out? I guess times are tough and it's not something they do anymore...

All this flowery and seedy talk is making me learn about gardening.
I have never done gardening before but i love to see beautiful flowers everywhere in general and aroubd my house in particular.
Does anyone from thus thread know of a very good beginner guide/magazine to learn about gardening? Our front flowerbed is just plain mud with no grass ir anything...... can anyone help me here? :

Amira, it all starts at the bottom: the soil and nutrients you give your plants will determine if they grow up lush and lovely or spindly and sparse.
Toss in a few bags of gardening soil, then a nice bag of fertilizer...yes, cow plop is fine, lol...only the bagged kind...We didn't realized how depleted our garden had gotten until hubby tossed in a few bags of fertilizer and raked it in...omg! Everything came up so thick, so many veggies and the herbs were so bountiful!!
If your soil truly is mud (ie: clay), then dig the stuff up, toss in some good soil, add in fertilizer and plant away!! We mostly plant plants, actually, not seeds, so I'm not much help there....but little pots of little plants in good soil will be stunning! And do NOT forget to plant at least one Stargazer Lily bulb for the absolutely intoxicating scent!!
