Good morning, everyone!

I thought I'd repost my QOTD from the July thread. (post #658) I don't think many people saw it with all the baby excitement between Granger and Angela273. Unless of course, you really don't want to answer, and that is ok.

I almost don't want to ask the next question, because it just seems like having another thing around to break. With a growing family of three, I've been thinking about getting a freezer. I don't want a large freezer, the kind you'd have to break walls down to move out of your basement. I'd just be looking for a small to medium sized freezer to store a few things in.

QOTD: Do you have a freezer and what size did you need to feed your family of how many?

i have an 18 cu.freezer which i like because you can see everything on the shelves and a small Danby chest freezer which belongs to my DD i find it hard to get into so prefer my upright freezer

We have a large upright and small chest freezers.If I had to choose I would go with the upright.

Happy with my little shop at Food Basics. Spent $16 and change and will be able to create lots of meals Bought 4 things of raspberries just to eat! Will grab more on the weekend for next week. The cauliflower are nice and big!

i haven't been on this thread much as i have been down in the dump for a few months,the transmission on my car went my mechanic says will cost between $1500-$2000 so am scrapping it will get a few bucks back for license,insurance and to scrap the car.I guess i will be looking for another car sooner rather then later.I have 2 cleaning customers and can't be going the bus route.Well we will see

That's a tough situation when you need a vehicle and the current one is no longer operable! Hope the Lemon Aid car guides help you find a used car that you can rely upon. I know what you mean by buses-sometimes they are not frequent enough, run long enough or go where you need to be sometimes. Taking time away helps you focus on your options. We're all human that way-needing to feel and needing to work through whatever.

@SassyAshley -you've not been having enough fun this year for you. Some decor updating would do you a world of good. The taps will just have to suffer through cheap replacement washers (you can get them free at HD if the faucet has a lifetime warranty) in the interim and maybe cable television (if not already history) will have to go.

I don't know if your region offers any free reuse centres for furniture or paint or home decor items dropped off by other residents?

Today I've let go of the garden idea and harvested all the lettuces and removed the cuke plants (a few knobby cukes) and the canteloupe plant (all had shallow roots). I had a big salad for breakfast. Dad has been messing with the garden entryway twice and I saw that as a sign of the end of summer gardening. He could have just adjusted the entry to lower the gate to make it closer to the ground but instead installed some tripping hazards of wooden pieces. I'm over it as of breakfast. Still have a little patch of herbs in one of the front flower beds, so will water and harvest them for focaccia one day soon.

I managed to make a back yoke for the beloved shirt (there's a lot of thread removed from all the topstitching and serging on the original seems) from one shirt sleeve and fashioned a pieced short sleeve from half of the remaining shirt sleeve and stitch everything back up except for the sleeve hems. So my topstitching is not straight--it's done.

Two days ago, I bought a clearance box of PC waffle bowls at $1.99 (box of 10) at Shoppers. There's no ice cream at home but the bowls are lightly sugared so they are ok snacks on their own. I do want some ice cream though...

We didn't have a freezer til our son was six - and gosh, I don't know how we did without it. Ours is about five feet across - I don't know the cubic ft. size. It's just the right size for us - even with just me and my husband at home, I still cook a lot for our son.
We got it secondhand and it's been just fine. It's a Kenmore - which is probably why!

Chest freezers are less expensive to buy, way cheaper to run and hold more per sq. ft., so they are overall more economical.
There is no way I'd get an upright for all those reasons.

It's really no biggie to dig in the chest freezer - ours has one big basket, then I have other baskets within for smaller things. Otherwise, it's just keeping like things together and knowing what's in there!

QOTD - we have a small chest freezer.

I find we don't have extra $$$ to stock up like we used to and don't use it as much. Our extras go in there. Couple of loaves of bread and some meat.

One thing to consider if you`re short like me. I can`t reach anywhere near the bottom of the chest freezer. I put some things in plastic shopping bags but they get brittle and tear very easily. One reason why I prefer the upright.

A friend of mine has a chest freezer and she uses basket to stack her items in,i'm 5ft tall and it would be hard for me to reach the bottom of the freezer

I'm tall, and find it's not the height it's the arm length! Not that I'm like a T-Rex, but I can't reach the bottom - husband has long gorilla arms, so no problem there.

Having lunch with my sis and BIL tomorrow as their visa for him to work in Argentina finally came today so they leave on Sunday. Not sure if/when we will go for a visit but I think they will be back at least twice per year as their adult kids all live here so I am sure we will see them at Xmas.

sweet sparrow -we have a small chest freezer (the ones that were 299.00 years ago have had it 17 years ) -I am 5'4 and its hard for me to reach the bottom -get hubby too and it was great when kids were teenagers always full-now with the 2 of us its half full of meat deals ,bread ,garlic bread etc-I do use the basket for my meat thou to grab easy
-years ago in our old house when the kids were tiny -we lived there til daughter was 16 son 14 we had a huge freezer-we just left it for the new owners as it was too hard to move and it was 13 years old

-just made peach muffins from scratch -so yummy not that sweet at all -made with extra virgin olive oil 2 eggs etc and a cup of yogurt -the yogurt must make them moist -yummm gonna take one to "ashlyn" on Friday when I babysit

-took sister-in-law to value village today round 2 of thrift shopping -gotta love cheap summer clothing -I am set now

Drop in hockey for DS tonight and now we are home. Put a load in the wash, put the dry stuff away. Gathered more dirty stuff for a 2nd load. DS camp bag cleaned out. Kitchen cleaned. Dishwasher running. Have a great night everyone!

Well did groceries late this afternoon and my freezer and pantry said thank you!!! Purchased 9 packs of chicken drumsticks at $5 each and 3 whole pork loins on sale at Independent grocers for $1.99lbs (sale ends today). Cut the loins up and priced the ziplocs for easy calculations to figure out supper costs. So we are now stocked on pork and chicken...yippee...I didn't purchase everything on my list as some prices are cheaper at other stores that started today, however, I didn't want to shop in 2 towns so settled stocking up on the meat sales instead. Pretty pleased... Wishing everyone a great evening
