As for who's to blame, his name is Chris Harper Mercer.
I believe Patty stated in her post, " I don't want to discuss it". Period. Stating an opinion doesn't mean being open to a discussion. I'm anti-gun and I'm not open to discussing it, either.

    Yet you're both discussing it.

    2015: 274 days and 295 mass shootings

Today a shooter opened fire at a community college in Oregon. Early media reports indicate numerous fatalities and a number of additional people wounded. That brings the total of mass shootings this year -- incidents where 4 or more people are killed or injured by gunfire -- to 294.
There have been only 274 days this year. The shootings are captured in this calendar, drawn from the the Mass Shooting Tracker. The tracker draws some criticism because its definition is broader than the FBI's definition, which requires three or more people to be killed by gunfire. But the broader definition is nonetheless a useful one, because it captures many high-profile instances of violence — like the Lafayette theater shootings — that don't meet the FBI's criteria.

Okay, but you're doing more than discussing this shooting, you're discussing all shootings and blaming them on the 2nd amendment, the NRA and politicians and the existence of guns. The blame for the shooting lies with Chris Harper Mercer, not with the 2nd amendment, not with the NRA and not with the politicians.

Yes, Chicago is a great example. Very hard for a law abiding citizen to get a gun there so only the criminals have guns. And the astronomical crime rate shows it.

    Douglas County Sheriff's Office

    33 mins ·

Update from Sheriff John Hanlin - 7:15 PM - Again, our focus tonight is on the victims and their families. We have paired up deputies and victim specialists with each family as we work through the process of identifying all of the victims.

As we talked about previously - this is considered a mass casualty incident and those protocols mean that we likely will not release any names before tomorrow at the very earliest.

We have information that leads us to believe we know who the shooter is. The official ID will come from the medical examiner's office.

Let me be very clear: I will not name the shooter. I will not give him credit for this horrific act of cowardice. Media will get the name confirmed in time... but you will never hear us use it.

We would encourage media and the community to avoid using it, repeating it, or engaging in any glorification and sensationalization of him. He in no way deserves it. Focus your attention on the victims and their families and helping them to recover.

To name them is to immortalize them at the expense of the lives lost....Let the dead be remembered and the killer lost to time
