Maybe this belongs in the rants section...to me WM is the store that bags things two per bag and won't let you use your reusable bags because they slow down the checkout.
But there you go: $.05 per bag or $.25 per (new) reusable bag at Walmart starting Feb 9

They don't allow reusable bags??? wtheck! it's not up to them...for goodness sake..my money, my purchases...ugh just another reason for me to hate walmart -_- / I'v rarely been shopping there as is /every time I go, the shelves are half empty, it's very hard to find the simplest thing I need..95% of the time I just end up leaving with nothing, such a waste of time.

Now what will I use to dispose of used kitty litter?! haha.
I think stores charging for plastic bags is just another way to earn more profits. I highly doubt some or all put it back into recycling initiatives after all one could claim that by charging for plastic bags less customers use them and that right there is a recycling initiative.
It comes down to the simple fact that now they won’t be giving bags away for free and instead will be ordering less of them (saving money) and charging for the ones they do give away (recouping that loss).
It sucks because Walmarts don’t have conveyor belts for you to bag your own groceries which wouldn’t be an issue if I didn’t have to watch the register and make sure everything was input correctly.Insert Clever Signature Here

I don't know how many places across Canada where their Walmart stores charge for plastic bags, but they don't here. Until next month. Apparently they are going to be charging 5 cents for each plastic bag, or 25 cents for each reusable bag, Nationwide.
Some argue this is good, some bad. Either way, I can't help but find it interesting that it comes on the heels of them closing 269 stores and in the middle of a complete economic meltdown. Well.....not complete. But with oil tanking, prices going up on everything, it's just "another" added expense for many that I'm sure they wish they didn't have to incur.Last edited by TaraF; Tue, Jan 26th, 2016 at 11:11 AM.

Just an update - my store still doesn't charge for bags. Seems like it was just a threat. They have however implemented the coin system for shopping carts. You are now required to pay a $1 (loonie) in order to use the cart as opposed to a quarter that most coin carts require.

IS THAT NOT JUST MADDENING?!
I am glad that here (Kitchener, ON) they have not started charging for bags, because of this bagging practice that seems unique to Walmart -- one bag per two items, it seems! I have even (politely, of course!) asked more than one cashier to please fill up the bags as best they could to minimize total bag count, but have not asked why they do it, as in, if it's store policy to be free & easy with those bags the way they are!
Also, it sounds irritating as heck that they refuse to use your reusable bags, saying it "slows down" anything -- how is it any slower than the plastic bag free-for-all they'd be having, otherwise?
You took the time to bring bags from home, which not only helps the environment but also Walmart's bottom line, and it affects a cashier's performance to the point of outright REFUSAL to bag things the way a customer is reasonably requesting?!
Sounds like some retraining is needed ...Last edited by bullet tooth; Wed, Apr 13th, 2016 at 04:39 PM.
