What are you doing to deal with the rising cost of groceries?

I have found that most meat deals on Flashfood that are listed in the two stores that i go to go really quick soon after they are listed. Seafood does not seem to go near as quick and i think alot of it is taken off because it expires before someone purchases.
I hope that the night that the products actually hit the best before date that the employees that are workiing late get a chance to take the products home rather that bulk lift them

Small city so 1 maxi ad cie and yes it goes quickly too.I always check at 12:00pm and 3:00 pm and if I want something I buy it now because i know it wont last...but my flash food is 50% off no higher discounts...I am still amazed by your back ribs score ..that is way more than 50% off discount wtg!

Trying to not waste food,planning ahead and have meals options in the freezer save the craving of take out and my money.I find those solutions work for me in those time

Starting the year off great! I am so focused on us eating healthy and shopping smart.
This month will really start us off right by only adding fresh stuff and using up what we have 1st.
I am excited for this challenge!

It'll be a challenge to replenish three dried herbs next month as I work through the restocks from November like I have been doing. Need to buy only 1 lb of ground beef to try a stuffed pepper meal for 4 before my 6 peppers (other two will get roasted with other veg) take a turn for the worse. Lemons need zesting and juicing soon. Forget buying a birthday cake-must consider what's needed to make a banana chiffon cake and set a date to make it.

Will hold off on online grocery orders. I think for those that can manage to use them-consider adding items a neighbour or friend without Internet might request but not find in the stores so they can reimburse you (kind of what people may already do with Costco shopping runs). Stockouts are real and even online, it's hard to get more than 1 of any cleaning item and for food, you might see limits of 2 or so.

Bro stocked up on paper products and rubbing alcohol. Not so much on tinned or dried foods (or even snack foods). I have a bag of popping corn to work through for January and February. We've got lots of butter too.

We are not going crazy during this lockdown. We have food. Will make do with what we have and just pop out for fresh stuff is needed but not urgent as we do have frozen fruit/veggies and will make do.

Realizing that I overpaid on Ricola candies on recent online order but I wanted them in the house. My local Shoppers must have moved the bags out of candyland and into pharmacy.
$3.99 online vs $2.79 - $3.49 retail (regular selling price). Fortinos flyer (the digital portion) shows the bagged candy for $2.49. Stock up time!

Mom said when she bought the sugar-free ones (by accident), they were in the pharmacy section of Walmart. Fortunately, the treats went to someone who likes sugar-free sweets!

I am keeping my level of groceries i have in the house high . i am hoping to lower the amount to regular amounts mid spring...
i am sticking with my 1 big shop every 3 weeks. its working well for me.

Using up stuff from the house freezer is going well!
Today I will pull out a huge container of cooked chicken to make DS chicken fried rice.
I will cook up a cookie sheet of bits of this and that for him later today too.
And I think I will make us smoothies this afternoon for our snack. Will use up fruit from the few open bags in this freezer. (before opening new ones from the upright freezer)

I see a few upcoming deals on peameal roasts that I will add to the freezer since it makes for a good cheap dinner with leftovers for breakfast. If it saves me cooking every meal I am for it. And with DS at home 24/7 he is eating all the time!

I had forgotten that I had pushed a PC Optimum points offer on frozen fruit to this week but I scored 1200 pts when I picked up two PC frozen fruits (manga and wild blueberries on sale $3.99 each this week) at Shoppers today. Kind of missed seeing the gash in the blueberries bag but I will check contents over tomorrow when I repackage the berries into a Ziploc container.

Simply wanted to have some yummy fruits for breakfasts as the usual counter fruits are bananas, apples and oranges/clementines. Time to break the routine!

Have noticed that Bro has been doing grocery runs almost daily. Mom's car is getting a workout each time.

Was at Dollarama to get a few household items. Three bar pack of Ivory soap is now $2. It used to be $1.50 (no Jergens on hand in store, as it used to be $1.75). That 25cent rise must be helping to cover the sanitizer pump and stand costs in the store.

$4.99 clementines are still worth the price at Fortinos for a 2lb bag. Sweet tasty fruit.

Have signed with a local company who sell fresh produce they have amazing deals! Free delivery on $25 and so far better quality than the grocery store. Romaine is $2.49 big full heads! I got 5 ginormous Roma tomatoes for $1, 2/$1 lemons, 2lbs of red delicious apples(had like 10 apples)for under $3! Just a few of this weeks specials!

Heads up on likely frozen fruit and fresh fruits price hike! I was reading an article on Calgary municipal election and something about 2023 Pan Am Games in Chile, which has had a drought in two areas of the country. Chile provides most of the frozen berries that we enjoy in smoothies and desserts, plus pushed a big investment in fruit agriculture in 2019 or 2020.

The budget, he said, also dedicates funding to combat a debilitating drought that has spread across much of central and northern Chile, as well as climate change.

I usually buy PC frozen fruits when on sale for $3.99 but I have noticed Shoppers started 2 for $ pricing this year in some flyers. Expect the prices to be more than $4 when "sales" arrive in the flyers. I seldom buy fresh berries that are imported (but do when local strawberries are in season).
