Looking for cheap & reliable internet provider

Cant wait my contract with Roger is over in Feb 2012.
I called the customer to ask them for any promotion for my account, they said that you gotta wait until the contract is over then we will look for it. Also you have to give us 1 month before cancellation. OMG. By the end of next week i'll let them know i cancel the service.

Just want to ask, for internet is Teksavvy, how about home phone ? cable tv ? Can someone suggest me ? thanks

Dell would be the cheapest.

Dell sometimes sell their Grab and Go Internet for 7.99. This is for new customer. It is 4 months of Internet. You have to call in to activate it. If you choose Fibre 25, it is 25mbs internet. You also have to call in on the 3rd month to tell them that you want to cancel. Then when it is over, you get another one and tell them that you're a "new customer." You can keep on doing this cycle. I've heard people doing this for years and paying less than 50$ per year.

I've heard good things about the magic jack for a home phone. A few friends of mine use it.

Teksavvy sucks, horrible customer service. I use Rogers, can't beat their 100% reliability.

You are mistaking your phone call to your own provider ROBBERS with Teksavvy..we all know how great their CS is

I feel sorry for people like you , who can't think outside the box and think big companies like Bell, Robbers, Telus, Cogeco etc are the only choice.

I use OTA antennae for my TV so no cable bill whatsoever , I get lots of channels for free in HDTV.

BobSagget, how would freephoneline work? I have DSL, thus need a land line for the internet connection. In order to eliminate the land line, do I need dry loop and then use freephoneline as my phone? It just seems counter-intuitive.

Wrto ISPs, Canada Computers has a Teksavvy dsl starter kit, where you get one month of high speed internet service free, with purchase of a Speedtouch modem. Below is the link:

Shaw just increased their prices again. Grrr. I called after the last increase and they didn't do anything about helping me reconfigure my cable/internet package.

Too bad we only have two choices here - looks like they have it better out East.

I was paying nearly $60 for my bell landline. I ditched Bell and switched to FreePhoneLine VOIP. Yes I have to pay $9.10 more for my Teksavvy DSL because I required a dry loop since I no longer had an active phone line, but after the one time $50 fee for freephoneline (and the price of the ATA if you dont own one), there are no monthly fees.

So basically instead of $57 and change/month for the bell landline I now only pay $9.10 each month (for the dry loop) extra to my internet. If you wanted, you could say my phone bill went from $57 to $9, which is a large enough difference to switch.

Plus you get free voicemail, caller ID, 3 way calling, free long distance to many major canadian cities + other features, all which Bell charges an arm and a leg for.

So in the end I paid:
$50 fee to freephoneline
$25 fee to port my number from Bell to FreePhoneLine (you don't NEED to do this one, they supply you with your own number, but if you want to keep your bell number, you pay the fee)
$43 for the Linksys PAP2T-NA ATA device I bought from Amazon

$118 + tax in total. That's just over 2 months of service with Bell. I've had FreePhoneLine since June so it's already paid for itself.

Tekksavvy was what I took for phone and internet my daughter has her own phone from magic jack umlimited NA calling and 45 a month and you keep your own number an additional 10 a yr not bad at all

It depends on where you are...Tech Savy only offers dial up in Niagara Falls...When I'm getting 14mbs+ for 55$ and never a problem(even though I hate Cogeco) you do get what you pay for. 5-6mbs if that just doesn't cut it..Does anybody even use dial up anymore??

Rogers absolutely SUCKS, it goes down on my computer all the time, it isn't fast at all and they are so expensive for nothing! That and their TV is horrible. OH GOODNESS I HATE ROGERS.. don't even get me started -.-

I am another happy tekksavy customer. Have had it for 3 yrs and even got my father to switch and he loves it (he was a die hard bell customer for yrs until he switched and he is thrilled at the speed and he out in the country)


The increases are because Bell and Rogers went (again) to the CRTC and whined that they are not making enough money because all these other companies are taking away their business so they got the CRTC to up the rates for everyone.

They are doing their best to try and drive the little guys out of business because they want their monopoly back. Given neither are Canadian companies I am happy to go with someone who is Canadian because we are sending away too much to foreign companies so in this one small area I can support a Canadian company even if the price was the same (which it is not, it is better service and cheaper)
