In regards to Harpers displeasure over the Charter, it appears that many Conservatives hold the opinion that the Charter allows the courts too much freedom. Translation? We want to do what we want to and don't want the courts to interfere. You can read this article for more info on that.

Darth, when I've seen him interact online via twitter or facebook he does so in both french and english which I think is great. I would assume those at his office would be bilingual as well.

I was really amazed (well, maybe frustrated is the better word) yesterday at how so many of the politicians didn't want to observe the day. Both Thomas Mulcair and Stephen Harper indicated that this was because Quebec hadn't signed on to the constitution, although I agree with Darth that most Quebeckers I know are very supportive of the Charter.

I agree with TaraF that a big part of this attitude isn't about Quebec, but rather is because Harper (and more, it's not just him) appears to think that the Charter is a roadblock to many reforms instead of being an investment in our rights as Canadians and as human beings.

I was listening to a radio program about that, they said that we don't need the charter. Stating that that's what MP's are there for, to fight for the rights of citizens and that if you didn't like your MP, vote in a new one. Buuuuuut, it's not that EASY. I'd have to canvas thousands of people with my grievances that something's infringing on MY rights, and considering the amount of voter apathy coupled with those brainwashed by the Tories it's not feasible to say that.
