Having worked at a grocery store, this is gross. It didn't bother me when people came with boxes that scanned, etc, but when people came with weighable produce, half-eaten, it was annoying. i would have people hand me a half eaten apple, or a banana peeling.

We were in the grocery store yesterday, and half-way through shopping, my daughter said, "what's that Mommy?" Pointing to something that was by her feet in the grocery cart....it was the leftovers of an eaten drumstick :O I was at Superstore, so people will go buy fresh chicken for their kids to eat while they shop...then toss the bones in the bottom of the cart. It was one of those race car carts, so the plastic thing was hiding it....NASTY!!

I wouldn't dare to eat produce in a store, ever; even my kids were never allowed and they knew not to ask. I always brought snacks for them just in case, but typically shopping only ever happened after they had already eaten something (shopping while hungry can cost more as you may make a purchase out of hunger lol).
I even wash stuff that will be peeled since touching that orange you're about to peel that has not been washed has just transferred the germs from the skin to the food inside...
As for grapes, this is no different to me then inspecting fruits or veggies for rot, bruises etc before I buy them. I will lift the vines of grapes from the bag to give them a quick check and if all seems well, that's the bag I will buy. In addition, I typically smell fruits to check for sweetness, and for berries, I rotate the plastic tub they are in to check for moulding, colour & softening before taking the container. Quite often I have found berries that are rotting just by rotating the packaging, and then set them aside to try & prevent others from buying them without noticing, and let an employee know; I've watched several employees simply put the packs right back in the pile even after they have been told, so it's up to the consumer to be vigilant about what they are buying.Last edited by KrazE; Fri, Oct 26th, 2012 at 01:24 PM.

I think I read recently that grapes get heavily sprayed down with a lot of insecticides at the border, so I'd never dare eat one without washing it.
If they're grapes from Chile, I wonder how many times they get sprayed before coming into Canada.
Last week, I saw a lady let go in the produce aisles. She reared back her head, sneezed and leaned all the way forward. I don't think she could have covered a larger area if she tried.
Seeing that sneezes can travel up to 40 meters on average was not encouraging. http://health.wikinut.com/How-far-ca...avel/1c4s4r1m/
