I'm in downtown Toronto, so don't do all that much to prepare. I always have a couple of bottles filled with water & several cans of tuna/veggies/fruit in the cupboard out of habit. I have a couple of flashlights, as well as candles (both the kind that requires fire & the ones that run on batteries & look pretty
).
We might be looking at the power/phone/internet/etc going down because of the crazy winds. I'm in a funny corner where the gentle breezes like to go overboard.
This is what I've been listening to:

The only thing that concerns me is a prolonged power out-age, for 2 reasons.
1) my fish tanks
2)the kids being unable to go to school.
The first can be managed...the second is a potential nightmare.
Short answer : no Long answer : NOOOOOOOOOOO!

I always keep extra can goods, granola bars, extra water, a hand held can opener, candles, flashlights, and propane filled up for the bbq. If I hear of a potential disaster, I will fill up the kettle, bath tub etc. Check the yard for anything that could get whipped around, put it away. I prepare myself but I don't get frantic.
The only thing I'm considering doing in the near future is purchasing a wood stove or installing a gas fireplace. If we get a blizzard, the power is out for a few days in the extreme cold, it would be good to have an extra heat source.

I guess I'm always prepared for a storm as well, we keep lots of canned food on hand, candles, have several flashlights, a battery operated radio, lots of batteries, propane tanks for the bbq as well as the table top cooker, prescription meds... The only thing I did was get additional batteries, some money on hand and gassed up the cars in case we lost power for a few days. But I think with our stockpile of food and drinks, we could easily go a few weeks with the provisions we have on hand.
