I can, but it's not too loud. My wife, not at all. It makes my teens jump nearly out of their skin and my 7 year old threw an empty pop bottle at me when I wouldn't stop playing it.

When I link it here it sounds completely different. Much louder and my wife can hear it. Go to youtube (Click the top part of the embedded video) to hear what it's supposed to sound like.

Grrr, yes - it's irritating!
Now, with the mosquito sound thingee that only teenagers can hear, that is a sound I can't hear - my son has tested me on it.
Patty, I remember the test pattern well, but for me it would have been on CBC or CTV as they were the only channels we got until I was in Grade 12 in 1978, when cable came to our city.

Dave, I didn't touch my volume control, and when I listen to it directly on YT, it sounds exactly the same to me.

Hmm... wonder what's changed with me? I listened to some of the vids of mosquito sounds on YT and I can hear some of them.
Ah, it depends upon the khz
This one I can hear at 10 khz - very high and piercing

I can't hear anything at 17 khz

Can't hear at 20 khz either

I hear a high pitched buzz. The brats mostly ignored it, although I did see some twitching ears.
This sounds like a metronome. The dog grabbed her squeaky toy, so I had to go play, then listen to it again. This time, the cat lay down and stretched out.
I couldn't hear anything. The brats both went to sleep.

I can hear Dave's video easilly and the 10 khz one, but not the 17 or the 20 at all. My cat really didn't like them.

I could hear Dave's and the 10 khz, the 17 was a clicking noise to me, or maybe more like a clock ticking; nothing at the 20.
My 13 & 14 yr olds said the same thing about the 17 khz (clicking or ticking noise) and just kind of shrugged at the 20 khz as it sounds almost blank
SO has informed me that there is actually a catch to that 20 khz on youtube - it cannot be heard at the resolutions available; had they made them available in 720 or 1080, the kids probably would have heard it just fine.

couldn't hear a darn thing. Then I realized the YT volume was down. I was getting a bit worried there for a minute.

Exact same here. Except my cat only reacted to the 10khz one - not to Dave's or any of the others; she glared at me then put her head back down and is once again back to sleep. Also, I am now experiencing some ringing in my ears after trying the 17khz one... this could be just coincidence though as I've been feeling a bit off since getting my flu shot. I also may have just woken up my stomach munchkin as my left side is getting brutalized at the moment and everything was calm in there 5 minutes ago!
I think I will try them with DH this evening... he refuses to admit it, but after 15+ years as an auto mechanic (with pneumatic tools, etc.) and an avid motorcyclist (with the requisite loud pipes, shortie helmet and no earplugs to fit with his style), I am pretty sure he has a decent amount of hearing loss and am guessing he won't hear any of them.
