President Obama's address to the USA
etaThey had their entire lives ahead of them -- birthdays, graduations, weddings, kids of their own. Among the fallen were also teachers -- men and women who devoted their lives to helping our children fulfill their dreams.
So our hearts are broken today -- for the parents and grandparents, sisters and brothers of these little children, and for the families of the adults who were lost. Our hearts are broken for the parents of the survivors as well, for as blessed as they are to have their children home tonight, they know that their children’s innocence has been torn away from them too early, and there are no words that will ease their pain.
As a country, we have been through this too many times. Whether it’s an elementary school in Newtown, or a shopping mall in Oregon, or a temple in Wisconsin, or a movie theater in Aurora, or a street corner in Chicago -- these neighborhoods are our neighborhoods, and these children are our children. And we're going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this, regardless of the politics.
This evening, Michelle and I will do what I know every parent in America will do, which is hug our children a little tighter and we’ll tell them that we love them, and we’ll remind each other how deeply we love one another. But there are families in Connecticut who cannot do that tonight. And they need all of us right now. In the hard days to come, that community needs us to be at our best as Americans. And I will do everything in my power as President to help.
Because while nothing can fill the space of a lost child or loved one, all of us can extend a hand to those in need -- to remind them that we are there for them, that we are praying for them, that the love they felt for those they lost endures not just in their memories but also in ours.
May God bless the memory of the victims and, in the words of Scripture, heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds.Last edited by Darth Penguin; Fri, Dec 14th, 2012 at 04:23 PM.

And Free Rupublic doesn't let me down....
NBC channel 4 here in DC is already talking gun control.
I swear. I am not a conspiracy theorist but I do know that Communists know pshycology and I wonder if they are somehow spurring these incidents to ban guns so they, the Government Communists, can finally take over our Country.
Since Obambi has another four years, he can back door massive gun control and Congress, especially the House, will say nor do nothing about it.

Wow this poor guy is having a bad day

http://www.tmz.com/2012/12/14/ryan-l...g-guy-shooter/
Numerous TV news outlets and websites are scrambling after they named a man and showed his picture, claiming he was the shooter in the Connecticut school massacre, but it seems they had the wrong guy.
The outlets claimed Ryan Lanza killed at least 27 people at Sandy Hook Elementary School, including at least 20 children. Some of the outlets also splashed his pic on the screen.
Problem is ... it looks like Ryan Lanza isn't the shooter. Someone began posting messages on Ryan's Facebook page denying he's the shooter, even saying "F**k you CNN. It wasn't me." FYI ... CNN didn't post the pic -- it was iReportCNN, a user-generated forum.
NBC reported they may have gotten the name wrong because the shooter had an ID in his pocket that made them believe Ryan Lanza was the culprit.
Law enforcement sources now tell AP the shooter is Ryan's brother, Adam.

Obama made a real touching statement. That is nice. I like people who use bad things to bring out the good in people.
I am horrified there are people out there using this horrible event for political gain. SICK!!

China school knife attack injures 22
People who think they have a reason of this kind of action will use whatever is at hand. Using a knife is a lot slower than using a gun which is why there are far more fatalities in Sandy Hook than in Chenpeng...A man with a knife has wounded 22 children - at least two of them seriously - and an adult at a primary school in central China.
The attack happened at the gate of a school in Chenpeng village in Henan province.
Police arrested a 36-year-old local man at the scene.
Security at China's schools has been increased in recent years following a spate of similar knife attacks in which nearly 20 children have been killed.

Mr Rogers Sept 2001"When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.' To this day, especially in times of 'disaster,' I remember my mother’s words, and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers - so many caring people in this world." --

So you own a gun because you hunt? A hunting rifle? A weapon for hunting deer, geese, moose etc.
This man killed these children with a weapon that is meant only to kill people. Assault weapons, semi-automatic.
Hunting is one thing, completely different.
The weapons used by this person to kill children are not needed in society.
This is where the discussion needs to be. You need to separate the need for sporting rifles(not a fan of hunting but not in favor of banning it) and the need for peoeple to feel empowered by owning weapons capable of mass destruction.
It can no longer be an all or nothing discussion.

I was deeply moved by the speech that Obama gave... brought on the years all over again

I think Natalka was dead on when she called the shooter a disgusting puke.
I have been hugging DS all night and I called my other DS to tell him how much I loved him... the thought of sending them to school only to never hold them again... it's devastating

I'm gonna have to agree with Patty on this issue... hunting guns are one thing. Others... there is no place for them, period.

To think that their poor little bodies are still in there. What a horrible scene it must be. Will the poor parents have to identify them at the scene. I hope not.
I would imagine it's a scene no living person is ever meant to see. Strength to the first responders.
