I still can't believe this happened. I am devastated for these families and this community and can't imagine the heartbreak they are feeling.. I can't even think about christmas anymore. All I want to do is hold my babies forever and never let go.

Tue, Dec 18th, 2012, 03:33 PM #30217,941 people died in alcohol-related collisionsDear friends who say that calling for better gun laws is like calling for a ban on cars: First of all, cars are not designed to kill people. Deaths arise from accidents.
8,775 By gun related homicides
Although I cannot prove it, I am sure more children die from drunk driving deaths than guns. And I am sure a vast majority of those gun deaths are gang related.
Who would want the job as gun confiscator anyway? If 80% refused to give up those guns... I'd take a wild guess and say there isn't a single person who would apply for that job.
Gun control has proven to cause violence to worsen, not lesson. Mexico has one of the toughest anti gun laws... wow! Dividing people on the gun control issue rather uniting everyone on the larger issue of culture is why things do not change IMO. With Love... Vesper.

2 points.
First, where did you get your numbers?
Second, those were still accident regardless if it's alcohol-related.
Again, as Annabelle said so well, cars are not designed to kill people, guns however are.Although I cannot prove it, I am sure more children die from drunk driving deaths than guns. And I am sure a vast majority of those gun deaths are gang related.
Austrialia didn't get any mass murder after they put their gun control law following the 1996 Port Arthur massacre.
Who would want the job as gun confiscator anyway? If 80% refused to give up those guns... I'd take a wild guess and say there isn't a single person who would apply for that job.

Give me a good reason to not get a gun control law.

NRA to offer concessions?
The National Rifle Association stands in the most unenviable position in this national crisis stemming from the Newtown killings.
With a $300 million budget and 4.3 million active members, it’s a powerful and ultimately successful advocacy group. After Columbine in 1999, little changed. After Virginia Tech in 2004, laws changed slightly. What will Newtown mean?
After Friday’s kindergarten killings, the NRA took down its Facebook page and cut its Twitter feed. Who wants to be the public object of derision and hatred from tens of millions of Americans?

Short answer : no Long answer : NOOOOOOOOOOO!

NRA promises "meaningful cintributions" to gun control debate
The National Rifle Association finally broke its silence on Tuesday, offering to make "meaningful contributions" to ensure there is no repeat of the Newtown massacre.
The NRA has been heavily criticised for lying low since Friday's shooting spree at Sandy Hook elementary school in Connecticut that left 20 children, seven adults and the gunman, Adam Lanza, dead.
The normal pattern for the NRA is to say nothing in the immediate aftermath of such incidents and to emerge later, when memories begin to fade, to lobby hard against gun controls.
On Tuesday, the NRA stuck to a short statement saying it would not comment until the facts had been thoroughly investigated.

i keep thinking how incredibly awful this is for the parents and the familes of everyone involved, but also i cant even begin to imagine what the police/fire/emergency team must have seen. i hope there is plenty of help for all of those involved too.

Michael Moore has gone on twitter to say the NRA hates freedom and wants kids to die.
This is the same man who falsely claimed that the NRA was founded by the KKK to discriminate against minorities.http://www.amazon.com/gp/cdp/member-...stRecentReview

If sizable numbers of NRA members become gun-victims themselves, maybe hope for legislation of firearms?

I am heartbroken about this. I can't read or watch anything about this without tearing up. My heart truly aches for those families. May they all rest in peace.

^^^^ The irony is.... well anyone can figure that out. There is a reason NRA members are not victims.

-----------------------------------------------------------
It is rather unfortunate yet another chance to make our world a better place is going to be wasted once again. It breaks my heart that each and every time all these beautiful people lose there lives we can't make some progress or come to some sort of consensus on simple things that would prevent more of these. I love everyone at least had a chance to involve themselves in the discussion and 100% appreciate all views, even those I do not agree with.Last edited by vesper; Tue, Dec 18th, 2012 at 08:20 PM.

Santa, please I've been good all year, I want this! What's it's purpose? Oh to kill lots of people in mere moments? No I won't use it for that! I'll just feel like a REAL man with this.

Please, Vesper, Gryphon, give me TEN reasons why a CIVILIAN needs a weapon like this, whose SOLE purpose is to kill lots of people at once. Stop with the other things kill too rhetoric, those are the risks we take (you've heard of tacit consent right?) by living in a society that relies on cars to get around. Unfortunately, Americans have tacitly consented to allowing assault rifles to be owned by almost anyone.
You do realize what would have gone down if the guy only had a small hand gun? Let alone your bat rhetoric? TAKEN DOWN. No one, especially untrained or even a moderately trained civilian could take down one of the behemoths the killer used to shoot up that school.Last edited by lekate; Tue, Dec 18th, 2012 at 09:38 PM.
