Pardon my ignorance, but I have seen reference to "rep" numerous times on these posts.
Could someone please enlighten me on what this represents?

These 'reps', short for reputation, earn you hearts, eventually. You personally have received enough 'reps' to earn you your 1st blue heart. It's that star on the bottom left of the tag line. Click on it & make a comment. You've seen some of what I myself, and others have said when repping you.

Eventually , I'll muddle my way through all of this.
