Afternoon all! Happy hump day too!
I'm sitting here.. kinda agitated at the moment! Me & the guy live in a basement apartment, in someone's house. I've had it up to here with the people upstairs. They are a young couple who bought the house, rent out the basement. We moved in June of 2011. We loved living here at first. It was our first place, first time we've both lived out on our own. Everything was included in our rent except our cellphones, so we loved it. Now, it's January 2013 & I cannot wait for our lease to be up in June so we can move out. For one, the apartment was very cheaply put together. There are certain things pretty much falling apart. It's just not the lovely place we once loved, ya know? They can be very loud at times.. feeling the need to rile their dog up right over us.. & of course we can hear everything.
But the real major reason.. they are always needing to come into our apartment. We have the electrical panel in our bedroom. At least every 2-3 weeks, they are coming down saying they need to come in because they have no power. A few of those times, they must have had to come down like 6 times. Just walking in. Today, they come in with someone else.. looked as if they were surveying wires for phone?! maybe.. they were talking french so I couldn't totally understand. It did sound as if they were discussing that this guy would be returning on the weekend to do whatever work they were going to get done. Of course, no heads up to us or anything. So I assume, they'll just show up. Or probably if we're not here, just come in on their own. I am soooooo tired of this. I realize they need access to things, but ugh..
Am I overreacting?

agreed, 100%.
You're not over reacting.
the Lady and I use to live in a place, exactly same situation as you describe. They people who owned the the house had a 2 year old girl who loved to run up and down the stairs at all times of the day and stomp everywhere she went. They had construction work going on and didn't let us know when they'd be having people come look at things or turn things on or off...there was one time where a contractor of theirs actually opened the basement door leading from the house down to our apartment and nearly saw my lady without her towel on (she had just come out of the shower in the morning) oh man was i pissed off...I was so happy to sign the lease on our condo!DANGER

lindsbeth, they DO need to give you notice. i own another house and rent it out and if i need to go there for any reason, i need to give at least 24 hours notice. they might own the house but it's YOUR apartment. totally not over reacting at all!

took the girls to 'bizzy bees' indoor play place for the afternoon. was pretty fun. the kids were brave and did the big slides themselves which was nice. wednesdays are $3/child + foodbank item so we loaded up a grocery bag and donated that. might have to check it out again next wednesday. the kids are pooped and just chilling watching a barbie sing-a-long movie
