Sometimes my loneliness is palpable. I miss my friends back home, the ones who I spent years cultivating a relationship with. This weekend marks my 11th "friend-a-versary" with my best friend. We met on a winter camp trip when we were 15. While we aren't the same people we were back then, she's always been there for me. Leaving her was one of the hardest parts about deciding to leave and live abroad. I don't regret my choice, but it's still unpleasant.
I have many friends here, but I can't help feel it's still not the same. I know I'll keep in touch and see some of them as we all move on, but I can't help but feel none of these relationships will be as long lasting or meaningful.
And lastly, the one friend I had, who seemed to always be there for me, has been pushing away and it's making me feel terrible. It's a combination of things, but I just feel empty inside. Maybe I just relied on him too much. I don't know. Things more or less went tense when he said he liked me, but I didn't reciprocate those same feelings, I liked him only as a friend. This was a few months ago, but I think his terrible luck with the ladies has been depressing him, and when I started liking his friend, things just kind of went...tense... I just hope I don't ruin my relationship with my friend, especially since the boy I like is extremely flaky, and I don't even know if anything will happen there...
I think I just blathered a lot there. Ugh, relationships can be the worst.
Also, fun fact, me and my friend both went to the same University. Small world eh? My last year and his first year (grad school) overlapped. This thread is currently associated with: Mark's

Gosh, I've never been so far away from home as you are, but long-distance away nonetheless... and sure, it's hard.
Hopefully you are keeping up with your home friends as best you can -
Friendships change, ebb and flow, just with life and years passing, as situations change.
You are on a HUGE adventure - even if you don't realize it now, what you are doing will impact your life forever; I think you are very brave to be doing it!
(just wanted to add how lucky you are to be in these times when technology is available; when I went through something similar, there was just the phone (too expensive for LD!) and snail mail!)Last edited by Natalka; Sun, Jan 27th, 2013 at 09:09 AM.

It's possible that it's too hard for him to maintain a friendship with you since he likes you more than that. I tried to have a friendship with an ex (I know, different circumstance), but it was just too difficult as I wanted more than a friendship and she didn't and she had enough and doesn't bother with me anymore. Perhaps he just needs time and maybe it could work out as a friendship, but going out with his friend most likely won't help.

My good friends and i are in different cities. And to make new friends is not an easy thing as we grow up. So i always have the feeling "more grow up more lonely"

It's been over 3 months, we never dated, I believed he liked me for convenience or he was misinterpreting my friendliness, I never once implied anything to him though. I understand it's hard when you like someone, but that shouldn't be a reason. And I know it's hard to stay friends with exes I'm doing it right now, but it's working fine, most others I really don't want to be friends with. But again it depends on the social implications, my ex and I have many mutual friends, and we've decided this way was easier on everyone.
