Guess it's true you can't judge a book by it's cover.

To make it work they would literally have to change the story would they not. If memory serves the book talks about a red head.
Chaning the words in Huckleberry Finn and now this. What are they thinking?

thats just wrong.. when you say the name.. anne of green gables.. it's a red head! it's an iconic Canadian character.. her hair is red.. she has freckles.. she is an awkward girl entering her teen years... she has an iconic straw hat and suitcase she wears conservative dresses suited to the time not plaid farmer shirts she doesn't work the farm.. what's next cut offs and tank tops?

Many years ago I went out to PEI and visited this green gables place. Tourism supported the community and everyone made sure they mentioned that to me. Perhaps this is a way to increase tourism, make guys think fake blondes with big boobs lurk behind every Lighthouse.

why can't some things just be left alone? This makes me very angry. I understand that they are trying to UPDATE an old classic, but what they forgot is the classic part. We DONT mess with classics, EVER!

my favorite part of the movie was when Anne and Gil were kissing on the bridge. I remember the scenery was so stunning. So much so that 3 years ago, dh and I went on a road trip. From Alberta to PEI. It was so much fun and one of the most memorable trips I've had in a long time

My Favourite quote from Anne of Green Gables:
“I wouldn't want to marry anybody who was wicked, but I think I'd like it if he COULD be wicked and WOULDN'T.

This can happen when a book is no longer under copyright (so that anyone can publish it) or when the publisher doesn't care about the book's story as much as churning out another cheap edition. Something similar happened last month with Sylvia Plath's admired and painful "The Bell Jar", criticizing 1950s' emphasis on women's appearances, which got a "chick lit" style cover that completely goes against the grain according to many commentators: http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2013...-cover-derided
