FRUSTRATION!
Is the best word to describe what I've felt this month, and it's ONLY the 11th!!!!!
#1 - My washing machine died. Purchasing a new part for it will cost us just as much as it would be to buy a gently used one.
#2 - I dropped my cell phone into the toilet. I still have $211 on my supertab that needs to be paid before I can get a new phone! **LESSON LEARNED -- do NOT keep cell phone in your bra!!**
#3 - The TV in our bedroom decided that it wasn't going to produce sound any more! While this TV was ancient and it isn't a priority to buy a new one, I will miss laying in bed and watching TV when I can't fall asleep!
#4 - I got a letter from the government saying that I owed them $250. APPARENTLY they seem to think that I was collecting the SLITC credit from Saskatchewan after I moved to Winnipeg. Which is bogus, I informed the government of my move BEFORE I moved to Winnipeg so that all the necessary changes were made. My GST/HST and child benefits went DOWN, so I don't understand how they claim I had collected it!This thread is currently associated with: N/ALast edited by shmeelady; Mon, Feb 11th, 2013 at 05:15 PM.

As for a TV, try the "free" section of kijiji for your area. if your not picky, you'll find one. My area has older (tube) tvs in the free section constantly - almost 10 a day. The washing machine part definetly sucks....maybe try asking about older models or such at the stores? and phones i have no advice for!
So sorry you've had such a rough couple weeks. can only go up from here!

You probably already know this, but you can take your phone apart (including taking out your SIM card) and submerge everything in a jar full of rice. Seal the jar and leave everything in there for a day or two. It's been known to bring many a phone back to life!

Okay, I'm fixated on one thing here, and it's not the series of disasters...
YOU KEEP YOUR CELL PHONE IN YOUR BRA?
LOL
Yeah, a TV shouldn't be hard to find. Maybe check into the price of a basic washer new... sometimes the used prices are almost as high!
Now that three things have gone wrong, you should be okay for a while, right?

so sorry you've had all these things happen at once.
i admit, i giggled at the phone/bra thing.
sometimes you can find used washers or dryers on kijiji for 100-150 bucks, because someone had the other appliance die, and they went out and bought a new set. they are willing to get rid of the remaining appliance cheap, and often they are working decent enough.
that might get you going for a while until you find a good one on sale that suits your needs.

Yes, I keep everything in my bra. To me it's like a utility belt, everything has it's spot. I have slight issues.
LOL.
My phone has been in rice for the past 3 days, DH has taken it out periodically to check it out. So far he's gotten it to turn (which I thought was a good sign!) but it only shows a blank white screen and then shuts right back off. We've swapped the battery out with one from DH's old phone, so it might just be a lost cause! As for the dryer I have checked around on Kijiji a bit today, it seems there are a few I can go look at. But just needing to find someone with a truck for pick up! Honestly anything would be better than the laundromat, laundry piles up quick with a little one!!
The TV I can live without for now, I'm just super bummed that I'm going to have to take a big chunk out of my TFSA because I was completely unprepared for all this to happen at once!

Stop checking the phone. Turning it on while still wet could do damage and harm it.
Did you try giving the Tv a good vaccuming? I know I got a bit more life out of one of our old TVs that way. I am sure if you posted on kijjii you could find one when someone upgrades.
I had to laugh at the bra thing. Hope your week gets better.
