    Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone ever used WestJet Airlines? I am thinking about booking with them. How's the seating? Is there a lot of leg room? Is the food any good?

    Thanks in advance

They've reconfigured some of their planes so that there is less legroom...unless you upgrade to better seats. I don't know when you flew last, but with the exception of a pack of cookies or crackers and a beverage, you have to pay for any other food - I usually bring my own.

I don't pick a particular airline, I pick flight times and the least connections, and the best price, of course. I think United Airlines is the only one I would actively avoid (based on a number of friends' bad experiences).

My expereince with West Jet was not good. Although the service was prett good. There was no leg room and I am only 5 feet 4 inches tall. The plance seemed old and worn out. The flight was rough, my connection was really delayed and they ruined my boyfriends suitcase. (It go crushed actually) and we haed to fight for compensation for htem destroying it. There was actuallya large whole on one corner where things were falling out, and the customer service manager had the nerve to say we boarded our flight with a ruined suitcase...I mean "really?" So after arguing for an hour, they gave us a 50 dollar credit to ue on another flight with them. We never used the credit, and never flown with WestJet again.
I usually base my choice of flights as marstec mentioned above. Scary thing is...I am flying with United in 4 weeks! Yikes. However, some things can be good, and some things can be bad. I pray my situation with United will be good.(I actually ahev not had bad expereicnes with them before and have flown with them at least 10 times) Honestly I have had my worst experience with AirCanada...so you never know...just got to do what is right for you I suppose.

We flew to Cuba with West Jet and I liked it. The seats were good, leg room etc I am 5'7 and had no problems. Staff was funny and polite. They only served us water, then drink choice (coke, juice, coffee) and a cookie or salty snack. I am not sure if there is more on longer flights. There was a menu if you wanted a sandwich etc I think for a sandwich (on a nice bun ham and Swiss) chips and a drink it was 10 bucks maybe 12 I cant remember.

I don't like Westjet very much compared to Air Canada or Porter. Don't get me wrong, I don't think AC or Porter are great, but Westjet is by far the worst of the three, in my opinion.

Westjet is crammed! I am tall (5'10) and I hated the lack of legroom but the guy next to me was probably 6'4. It also feels like the seats are slightly narrower (or perhaps my hips have grown - oops!) but it just felt like the "cattle car" mentality. I lucked into the front few rows that have more leg room because they messed up my tickets on two flights, which was great. Though usually I thought the prime seats in planes were two seats in the space of three in the back - Not so with Westjet. If you're seated next to people with broad shoulders, or have them yourselves, then it will be quite cozy.

Also, depending on where you're flying (I was flying from Halifax to Vancouver) you end up over the United States. Since they don't have "on demand" like Air Canada, but rather have "Live TV" you don't get the signal for the majority of the trip. And if you want to watch a movie you have to pay something exorbitant like $6 per movie, whereas Air Canada has multiple selections included.

Don't get me wrong, I would fly Westjet if Ihad to get across the country for an urgent matter and it was the easiest/only option. These grievances aren't atrocious, but I would be choosing AC over them any possible opportunity I had when the prices were in the same ballpark. Plus I like getting my Aeroplan, and I don't fly enough to earn a free flight with Westjet.

My hubby flies all over Canada and he goes Air Canada and Westjet. He is flying to nanaimo BC next week but he is flying Air Canada and it was cheaper to fly with them during there sale. I have flown all over the USA and Canada too and worst one was Southwest talk about no leg room and you are packed. I have flown Westjet from Halifax recently and they were so nice and the plane was comfy and I am 5ft9 so I had lots of room. Hubby is 6ft4 and he says he never has a problem on any flights I think its because he falls asleep the minute the plane takes off.

WestJet isn't bad. Air Canada is horrific. United is brutal, rude, unpleasant check in staff and the same in the air.

Food on a plane? How long is your flight?

As someone who flies several times a year, I've been flying with Westjet ever since they started and only have good things to say. Westjet is the only airline who has NOT lost my luggage....expect Porter since I haven't flown with them.

None of the airlines have very roomy seating, unless you are going to pay for "first-class". The first 3-4 row of Wesjet have a little bit more leg room, and you can select your seat when you use online early check-in. Also none of the airlines offer much for food unless you are willing to pay. Most airlines will offer you a complimentary drink (water, pop, juice) and a snack (cookie or pretzel/bits & bites).

I'm petrified of flying. I hyperventilate and freak out if I get anywhere near an airport. But, since you can't always avoid flying, I've flown AC and WJ and I've got to say, I LOVE WestJet. The flight attendants are wonderful, very personable, funny, caring people. Maybe it's because I always enter a plane in full blown panic mode but every time I've flown with West Jet it's been a very enjoyable experience. I've never had a problem with leg room (I'm about 5'4), and I love the tv's in the back of the headrests.
AC however, I've always found to be snotty, stuck up, no service and ALWAYS delayed. Never ever had a good experience on an AC flight.

It's still near impossible to get me on a plane, but if I have to, it's West Jet all the way.

I've flown with several airlines. AC, WestJet, United, Air Transat, Sunwing. Best by far is Sunwing IMO. No extra cost for baggage. Hot meals at no charge etc. Have only ever flown them when going International.

Air Transat - Flew them in Feb from Florida. Average airline. No extras, no real complaints.
Air Canada - meh...usually more expensive but again nothing out of the ordinary for the money you pay.
West Jet. Easiest for me to fly since I can fly out of Hamilton to Calgary as opposed to paying for parking and driving to Toronto. I can't complain about leg room. I'm barely 5 feet tall so leg room isn't an issue and I ALWAYS get a window seat so I can rest my head on my pillow on the window and not worry about sleeping on my neighbours shoulder and I don't have to move when someone needs to use the washroom. I never use the washroom on the plane aside from ONCE when it was an absolute emergency. I'm sure all you ladies can appreciate what I'm talking about. :x

I fly using AC mostly but have used Westjet a few+ times and I don't find much difference between the two airlines; with the exception that Westjet's fares are usually cheaper. (the food is usually cardboard pizza or chicken wraps that you have to purchase )

I've flown with WestJet several times in the past and never experienced problems. The staff was friendly and helpful. They give you complimentary juice, pop, coffee and either cookies or salty snack. I know you can buy larger snacks (sandwich?)

Used WestJet in October to Vegas and all was good. We just ate before we left and just enjoyed the free drink and snack.
