Ok, so it's been awhile since I have posted anything. Just curious about how all are feeling about Target now that it has been opened for awhile. I have not yet gone to one since there isn't any that are close by and when they first opened the reviews seemed less than favourable....just wondering if the tide of public option has changed.

i never had any opinion of them before, but this is my general impression of it now:

    the grand opening was over-hyped.

the store here in calgary is pretty sparse with merch, and its prices are pretty much on par with london drugs, not walmart, i have found.

when i was in there the other day, my bf and i got followed by security for really no reason at all. we didnt have backpacks or hoodies or anything. it was so weird....

Have now been 3x's since it was opened in May.

First time: overpriced, little to no selection of shoes, oversize clothing, food staples
Staff very friendly, eager to help, easy to find

    Second time: same as above.

Third time: Cash staff less enthusiastic about job. No greeting. No verbal exchange. Seemed put out when I asked if there was a bag larger enough for a printer I was purchasing.

All three times other than staff members I am pretty sure I could have run around naked and not been seen by anyone.

They haven't opened in Ottawa yet, so don't know. They're scheduled for opening in the Fall.

I went there for the first time to find a specific piece of clothing and it was waaay too short (I'm tallish).

When I went back the second time, I found a good substitute, but was sad there was only one when I wanted to buy multiples.

The store is very clean, large, but hard to find a staff person when I needed them. I do find the prices more expensive than competitors. My mom said when Walmart first came to Canada, she found their prices were more expensive than other places. But they've learned. Maybe Target will too.

Wish they had more grocery and a closer location.

I find their prices more expensive than Walmart or other (most) grocery stores.
But when they have clearance or blow out sales (like Glad garbage bags), the prices are amazing!

I changed my mind about shopping at Target.Other than that it's not very good. The pharmacist never even heard of a common first aid product.Shelves never get filled.Shoe department doesn't have any selection.First I was told I could use a manufacturer coupon and Target coupon on one item. The next week the same person said I couldn't use both coupons.Could they have a consistent coupon policy from the same person.Absolutely not.I'll just go for the clearance and nothing much else.

My experience is different than those of the people who have posted above. I find the store clean, well organized, the staff very friendly and helpful. Shelves are always well-stocked. I despised Zellers but I enjoy shopping at Target. Like all other stores, they have great prices on sale items while regular prices are not always impressive. I love Target clearance and again, I can't say enough about how helpful and friendly the staff is at my Target store.

I've been in about 3 times. Used coupons once and wasn't fought on it which was nice. I think that's the only purchase I've made.

Prices are kind of high, selection isn't fantastic. Sale prices are okay sometimes, I'll go looking for end-of-season clearances. The gift cards with purchase are cool.

Nope. I figured they were going to suck and several months later they still do....... IMO.
I haven't given them any of my money nor do I plan to in the near or far future.
The nice thing about where I live is there is a huge selection of stores. I don't have to rely on Target because they're the only game in town... they're not. If I never go into another Target I'll be just fine.

I've been a few times. Selection in certain departments is lacking, and prices aren't amazing by any means. I did a coupon stack once and ended up paying less for the items than I would have at WM with just a manufacturer's coupon (regular WM price, not sale), so I think the only time I'd go back would be to do something similar.

I wasn't impressed when we went to a Target in the States, and it looks like the same experience here. There is a great deal of hype about their clothing being good value, but what I saw was a whole lot of wildly patterned polyester knits and the rest was made with overly thin fabric, so almost disposable clothing. I used to go to Zellers on that rare occasion when they had something advertised that I wanted...I think it might be the same with Target, they won't get my day to day business.

I had been to the one in Coquitlam and the one in Edmonton. Neither caused any amount of excitement in me after trying both locations. Recently the radio in Halifax conducted a survey asking Haligonians if they would be shopping at the new Targets stores opening here this Fall. 90% said yes. I hope they redo that survey a month after the stores open to see just how many are going to continue shopping there. Unless Target can reduce their pricing, it just won't work.

I find my Target to be more expensive than the Zellers it replaced. It also seems that they have some difficulty keeping items in stock on their shelves (logistical issues). Their selection also seems to be rather limited for most items. I have, however, been happy with the quality and taste of their Archer Farms private label brand. Overall, I miss my local Zellers.
