I live in a supposedly "luxury adult living complex" with an underground parking garage available with an extra fee. I park in the underground parking. I get to my vehicle and I see that it is splattered with white spray paint, on the driver side window, the paint, trim, windshield, bumper. A guy three spots away from me decided he would spraypaint his car in the underground parking (which is filled with 30 cars, his spot is next to the garage door). The two spots between us are currently empty, so guess whose car got covered in splatter. My vehicle is only two years old and didn't have any marks on it before this, now it's dark grey paint is covered with a fine misting.
What sort of idiot give their car a paint job in the underground parking?
Our lease specifies no car maintenance or auto body work in the underground parking or building parking lot. I am so angry.
I am speaking with a lawyer today as the police told me there isn't anything they can do, it is a civil matter. Seriously a person destroys my vehicle's finish and it is a civil matter. I tried washing it and it did not come off.Last edited by matrix82; Wed, Sep 11th, 2013 at 08:30 AM.

TAlk to your building management. Maybe there are cameras and you can make him pay to have it removed. I'd be livid!!

The property management will take care of him too. I once got a fine warning in our building for accidentally spilling water off the balcony while watering the plants (no joke). Told me if I did it again I'd have to pay $250!!!
If they'll fine you for something so minor, they'll take crap like this very seriously. If it is repeated issues he can get kicked out of the building. So sorry that happened. That sucks. And because it happen in the garage (private property) the police really can't do anything. Have you spoken to the Guy? to see if he want to pay for your paint job? but then again he was doing his own painting. or see if the condo board would fine him for breaking the rules.

Sorry to hear about it. Why can't people think how their actions can effect other people as well. Talk to the Condo Board, they should be able to help you.

You aren't having much vehicle luck this year. I hope the condo board can make him pay for it. What a jerk.

Holy crap. That's insane. Send a lawyer's letter to the a$$hat in question with a cc to the condo board; document the issue and how the damage was done (be factual, not emotional) and advise him that you are going to have your car professionally cleaned / painted at his expense - don't insist that he get it done, you will only argue about what constitutes a "good enough job". Get DVD copies of any video IMMEDIATELY - don't rely upon your property management office to hold onto them for you, sometimes they recycle their tapes / erase the data after a certain time period.
I understand your frustration, but the cops definitely have no jurisdiction in this case. There's nothing they can do, and even if it was considered a criminal matter, you'd only be more infuriated (justifiably!) by how long it took to get it through the court system for him to get slapped on the wrist with a wet noodle. It's totally a Small Claims Court thing - and relatively simple to file, you can get the relevant information at the Ministry of the Attorney General's site.
Good luck, OP - that really sucks!!
