How did everyone fair the Ice Storm?

My purple leaf sand cherry tree is touching the ground; the smoke tree almost is, as is the rose of sharon... we didn't lose power though, the perks of having everything buried underground... it took ten minutes to chip away at the car door just so it could be opened to get it running, then another half hour to clean the rest of it off.. other than that things are just tickety-boo

I was on my way back from Cambridge last night and we nearly went into the ditch.
The road was wet from the rain and then we hit a patch of ice.....scared the crap out of the kids.

My neighbours tree is still standing, which I am thankful for because if the branch that looks like it wants to snap off actually does, I will be getting a new living room.

Up here, we've just been getting fluffy snow...we've been very lucky!

Yes 680 News Toronto said earlier that 250,000 Torontonians would be without power. About half hour ago the number rose to 300,000. At least they are planning to open city owned buildings for people to stay in during the power outage.

We got our power back on around 5pm. It was out for about 15-16hours. Thankfully when it got cold we went to my mom's house, DH got the call on his cell that power was restored so we just got back. Hoping it stays on! lol

People have been using the roads as skating rinks near us. We watched some kids play Hockey on the street behind us.

We just heard from a friend in Pickering...his daughter moved in with friends because of her power failure. This is just awful! And particularly so because of all the turkeys and dinners that won't get made in 2 days!!!

Has anyone heard from Walks lately? She's in the eye of that storm, too.....

Snow here mixed with freezing rain and ice pellets. We are ok though, power is on. Sorry for those who are suffering in this cold.

I think most of us with heaps of broken branches would like to see roving lumberjacks with woodchippers just show up as part of the ice storm 12 sights we'd like to see before Christmas version of The Twelve Days of Christmas carol.

Recommend having hand warmers from dollar stores, butane bbq lighters for candles/gas burners and candles for anyone who went through this same ice mess back in April too. That was a longer time without power (day and a half). Today, 12-13h outage. Then a nearby hydro line went up in flames-lights flickered and heard sound.

My house has been out of power for an entire day now and word is, we'll be out for another 24-48 hours. We're around Yonge and Bayview in Toronto.
Dad says that the house is 15C and it's cold! They stocked up on propane, so they can make hot food...but my poor cat!
I think I might bring her over to my boyfriend's house, which is where I am staying if the temperature continues to drop.
I'm going to stop in tomorrow to see what's up and hopefully I can still host Christmas dinner.

Our trees, a maple and a giant (think 50+ year old) ever green is holding up for now. If that thing fell on our house, it'd be a right off for sure! :\
We also have three other giant evergreens that aren't so healthy to begin with in the back yard, near power lines...I'm worried about those falling.

Its pretty bad when I am, just north of Milton on the escarpment in Halton Hills. No power since Sat night but we have a generator so heat, fridge and internet-no water, lights or stove. So many trees came crashing down yesterday and the power lines are down all over the place. I feel for all the older people who have no heat!

I have a sibling in Richmond Hill. Luckily they didn't experience any power outages at their house. A relative lives in Scarborough and apparently will be without power for a few days. I hope everyone out east receives power soon and things look up. Keep safe

Ok sorry folks but Ford is an idiot. I just saw him on tv saying "if" the province wants to help we will accept. You bloody fool!!! You need to call in the army and Hydro crews from other provinces if you want to get things back to normal anytime soon.

When this happened here in 98 it was much worse and we had crews from all over even the northern states. We also sent crews down to Vermont and New Hampshire.

Reign in your ego and get help, you fool. Just wait until some poor idiot dies from trying to heat up his house with a BBQ.

Lots of ice over here and its falling off the branches,very lucky to have power and thank full. We have a ice crust over everything,Wishing that those in the dark get there power back fast,stay safe and stay away from the trees.
