Frugal February-the sequel

Dh is home today so I needed to pick up some more produce because of my diet I was almost out . Popped into FreshCo and sorry to say $200.00 later I have lots of produce, pork ribs x 8 packs @ $1.97, 6x frozen pork loins $1.97lbs and 3 boxes of chicken wings $4.97 and tons of water bottles but atleast I have my produce and some meat to restock my freezer...so I can substitute a pork loin instead of 2 x chicken somewhere along my menu plan.

Had to send a fax with regard to my retirement .

Popped into a dollar tree, was our 1st time, I didn't buy anything but dh sure did .

Logan (ds2) ripped his Columbia snow pants for the 2nd time and I cannot repair them so I suggested going to a 2nd hand store to see if I could find a replacement pair since were out anyways. I paid $5.00 for a pair of snow pant by O'Neill that look like they were never worn so we'll see if they fit once he gets home (fingers crossed). I find it so stupid that stores like WM are now selling summer clothes which is stupid because we are still in the winter and things like needing new snow pants happens, you can't even find a pair of gloves at our WM .


So I weighed myself this am and I lost 3.2 pounds since last Thursday so pretty happy.....27 more to go .

I really need to start branching out and reading other threads!

I'm so pumped I paid the last payment on my bank student loan on Monday. I'm going to put 1/2 of the money freed up onto paying off my LOC and the other half on another loan to lower the final payment (those crazies think in sept 2015 im somehow going to come up with over 2200 in one month for the final payment when a monthly payment is 510 - and no i have not missed any payments since taking out the loan)

This week has been decent for groceries as well - BF picked up eggs and a couple things one night. I picked up some snack foods and coffee another night. He eats at work for supper when hes working so I've been pulling my "single" meals i save from leftovers (i hate throwing stuff away so i freeze it before its not edible to eat when I'm home alone for syppers or noons). This week its been Lasagna, Ham & Scalloped potatoes and ham & Grilled cheese sandwiches.

I did spend half my grocery budget for the month when we were out of town but everything we purchased was stuff we were out of..and WAY cheaper than at home. Weeks like this one kinda make up for the splurge. I'll end up with frozen leftovers after next week as well as we make larger meals when the boys are with us.


Question of the day i missed answering:
I'm looking forward to my income tax. Previous years I've been putting it all towards my govt student loan but this year I get alot more back because i earn more and have different deductions having moved to the nwt vs sk so will be keeping hopefully 500 for my TFSA the rest is going to be divided between my SL, the leftover of my share for the frozen pipes and the shaw bill (id love to have a couple months prepaid)

I've been doing my taxes myself for the last 4 years.


I know i missed other QoTD but i cant remember them right now!

-going to visit "ashlyn tonight-my son is babysitting -so we are picking up a few pizza's at little cesars for him and us
-she is 4 months old today -wow time is flying
-well havent been shopping in a few days -my car has no snow tires,and its low to the ground-so i will wait to drive it
-asked hub to pick up eggs and milk at shoppers -well see if he doesn't I will get it tonight

-wow nancy 3.2 pounds -awesome -I was feeling so down yesterday cause I cant help shovel -I ate a whole chocolate bar( a big one too)
-I feel I am in abit of a depressed state -its coming up a year soon in march since my mom passed an I am reflecting on that-ittletings like I as watching a mid-wife show on netficks and the music and clothing reflected the 50's nd iwas thnking he was pregnant with me in 58then I had a little cry

-so happy to go see "ashlyn" toight tho -so I have my moments they come and go-of course this winter doesnt help-cant walk too cold -or snowing like crazy half the time

I just spend the last two hours cleaning and organizing my project stuff. holy crapoly.. im still not done. I'd really love a shelving unit that takes those fabric drawers from the dollar store. some day dh has promised me a corner in the basement. hmm is that the one next to the washer and dryer. LOL
went out this morning and picked up milk, eggs, cheese, juice, angel cake and bread all on sale woohoo.
ds2 is finally cleaning out his room, instead of selling our bed we decided to give it to him.
our mattress and free kobo come tomorrow. its going to be a busy weekend.

QOTD? Do you buy bottled water and why or why not?

I personally don't buy the cases of water bottles as our drinking water is safe so it seems like an unnecessary expense and a hassle lugging it home. But I see lots of people carrying heavy cases of water bottles out of the store so I am curious to know why other's choose to buy it

Saundyl-I was wondering if it would be better to put your 500 TFSA contribution against your debt as I assume you will be paying more interest on debt than you will be earning? On the other hand perhaps you just want to start a small emergency fund and that makes sense too!

Firstly congrats on paying off your 1st student loan and taking that amount and putting against your LOC, smart lady .

You are allowed to branch out and read other thread but don't forget us lovely gals here as we will miss you .

coupon girl it's only normal to be experiencing these moments of sadness as the anniversary of your mom's passing it's natural so don't that get you down itself. Have you kept up going to those talk sessions at the library for persons who have lost ones, it may be a good idea to start making some appointments given how you are feeling.

Eat another choc. bar for me I love coffee crisp .

I don't blame your dh for give you sh*t for trying to shovel, listen to your dh, he only has your best interest at heart, hun.

Thanks for the good wishes regarding my back - it's just at the first owie stage, and I'm NOT letting it get worse (because it gets horrid), so I'm being very careful. Can't even reach for something or do any bend no matter how carefully - I'm not in constant pain, but lightning bolts come if I do something 'wrong'. It should clear up...

macw, I'm sorry I don't remember how long it took to get the blender, but I won it near the beginning of the contest opening and I sure didn't have to wait til it closed to get it.
- I went through all the pages of last year's thread - I won on Feb. 3 and got the blender Mar. 22.

saundyl - congrats on being done with your student loan! I remember how good that felt - it was a very loooong 10 years!

We don't buy bottled water - we have FAB hard water here and it's yummy!
SO many people don't realize that the bottled water they are paying for is just tap water, anyway...

Great question lizzie!

We buy the large 15L or whatever size when I do my canning as we have very hard water and if I use our tap water the food will spoil!

I use our tap water for cooking but I do buy the 500ml bottles for the boys lunches and drinking around the house because our hard water tastes weird

well the valentine thing was a given LOL
but seriously he as enough tools in the basement to create a state of the art craft area.. getting to them, finding the time and actually doing it.. well thats a whole other box of wax.

the only problem with ds is getting him to commit to getting his room cleaned.. i'll be so glad when the weekend is over and his room is done.
