Hey all!!!
So I am a teacher and as you may know, in Ontario, it is almost impossible to get a job...
Well, I graduated 6 years ago... For the first 2 years, I didn't work at all. For the past 4 years, I have been working in Durham.
I had an interview for York Region last month... I have been waiting for almost one whole month for the results. Heard earlier this week that they had trouble contacting my references and that if they didn't hear from them by next Friday, my account would be inactivated.
Needless to say, I have been stressing out, calling and emailing my references like crazy but to no avail...
Somehow, by the grace of a power much greater than my own, I got the email this morning stating that I was successful and have been granted a spot on their list. My orientation is Feb 24!
I will now be working where I live, which has been a dream of mine for the past 6 years. No one can understand how much this means to me and my family.
This is post is relevant to Smartcanucks, because this change in my life will lead to great savings for me and my family on several accounts. One is gas savings. I usually have to fill up more than once a week. Now I might be able to gas up once every TWO weeks, like my husband who also works in York Region. Second is since we have a baby on the way, I can now be working closer to home and my in-laws, so the baby can be dropped off for daycare instead of us paying someone else...
I am sooooooooooooo happy right now!! :D!!!This thread is currently associated with: N/A

Awesome!

What grade will you be teaching? Is it for a leave, since it's starting soon, or will it be a full-time position?
When is baby due?
So much going on, you must be so excited! I used to be a teacher, so I know how wonderful all of this is!

How it works in Ontario is...
First, you are put on an "Occasional List" - I made it onto the elementary one, so I will be supplying for Grades K to 8. Then, you have to be interviewed AGAIN to be placed on an "LTO List". Then, you are able to apply to long-term positions and permanent positions.
So, I am still at the first stage - OT list! Hehe!

its a real pain to get a full time job in york region, i don't know why, but it seems like there are lots of people fight over for jobs, and you really need to be very outstanding to land a job. sigh....I had been trying for two years now, and still nothing yet. I m at the point of planning to go back to school for a career change.

CONGRATS!!

When we were building our house we had to move to another side of town as our condo sold extremely fast. It almost triple my husbands drive to work. It sucked.
Enjoy your new job and the added time to spend with your family
