Thread: Online Dating Gets Rough
-

I had a couple of dates last week with guys that were contacted online.
Both were real wash outs. One walked in and almost immediately told me I was a liar because I don't look like my picture. After that, it was just one more strike out after another.
Another walked in, chugged down a beer rapidly (his profile says he doesn't drink), sat down for about five minutes, made an excuse, and took off. Appeared to be dealing with some kind of phobia or anxiety issue.
The online dating world gets very tough, and it's a good thing I don't take it too seriously anymore. I went to a church meeting yesterday morning and practiced some music to get me in a better frame of mind.

Oh, goodness - hopefully those are the only two bad experiences you will have!
I know many have had great ones! Wishing you luck!

That bites you had those bad experiences. My sister met her bf on plenty of fish. They've been together a little over two years now (live together now). There are plenty of fish in the sea and I'm sure you will find the right one. I've never tried online dating sites myself. I'm not ready to date anyone, enjoying my single life Good luck!

I've only gone on one online date, years ago.Just coffee, thank God.He was about 85 pounds heavier than the 10 year old picture on his profile, and was beginning to lose his hair as well.It was very awkward, and I was in line for the next ferry an hour early d/t our lack of chemistry. On the other hand,I did have a pleasant conversation with a very flirty tourist in the waiting room on the way back, but he was actually going to Van. Isle and was lost .I have friends who've had positive experiences and long term relationships from online dating, but I think it's always a gamble because chemistry is such a big part of attraction and can't be transmitted over the web.Persevere if you want to find a good match,it can be done but takes time.

online dating attracts nothing but losers and lowlifes who can't get a women the conventional way
i'm talking about men in the 40+ market
most are married looking for a fling
or singles only interested in casual sex
i'm so glad i stopped doing online dating
it brought me nothing but heartache and disappointmentsYou can't change other people. You can only change yourself"

I wonder....does it make any difference if those dating sites charge a fee or not? Do high fees attract a higher or more serious client? Iykwim?

So sorry your last couple of experiences went this way. There are real people out there who are looking for the same things you are, there's just a few frogs to get past first.
Fortunately my DH was not a lowlife, married or any of the other colourful descriptions Frugal has for folks who look for love online (and neither was I!). We met in 1999, married in 2003, had DS in 2006. Hope you too can find your prince!

I once had a very pleasant evening with a man who was visiting my city on a business trip. We had a couple of drinks before he told me that he'd love to see me again. This sounded good to me. Then he revealed that he had 2 kids. Fine - even better, maybe. But I could never meet them because...... wait for it..... his wife was in a coma and had been for 3 years. But the kids still thought she was coming home. He needed to "move on", however. REALLY????????? This was one of the most creative stories I ever heard. You can stop laughing now.

Lol, I know it sounds a little snooty, but it's probably incredibly easy for guys to present themselves on free sites, but would those creeps shell out a couple of hundreds dollars to do that? Oh, I'm sure there are creepy guys who would, but ..... Just curious....do the paid sites separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak?

I tried a paid site for six months and gave up on it. I didn't meet one guy in that time.
I have decided to be more selective about the ones I agree to meet. Problem is, it's a lot harder to get a grasp of what the guy is like before u meet them.
I should add that I have met some good guys online, the problem was no chemistry.
Thanks for the comments!

Sorry to hear about your bad experiences! All I can say is dont give up there are some good ones on there!
I met DH on POF in 2006, we were married and had our son in 2007, hubbys brother met his wife online (not sure which site) and they just celebrated their 10 yr anniversary and my cousin (who is close like a sister) met her current boyfriend online and they have been together for almost 10 months
