So, I get my monthly email telling me my gas bill is ready for viewing, I click to open, and SPIT MY TEA RIGHT OUT!!!!
<<< $992.36 >>>.
Now, i do have a swimming pool heater, and my gas bills in summer (average $70-86) are more than my winter bills (average $50-70) but definitely not this much more.
Of course I immediately grab the phone to call and find out what's going on, but of course they are currently closed.
I am not gonna be able to sleep a wink until I find out what's going on. Union gas has some explaining to do.
Wish me luck.

have they changed your meter recently? I have heard horror stories of people having their meters changed and getting big bills. This was Enbridge but I can't imagine it wouldn't be different with Union Gas

I imagine it's just a mistake - I have a family member with a small farm whose bill jumped from around $500 to close to $2000.
But good luck, here's hoping it's not a huge hassle to get it fixed!

OP, at least you live in Union Gas HQ area. I'd suggest you also visit the Ontario Energy Board site to see which increases were allowed the gas supplier. There's another thread about how a price increase is to be spread over 27months or so because to fully implement it means some customers won't be able to pay for anything but heat that month.
I noticed the E.B.P. is now much higher. It's around $190/month. It began at $131 at start of 2014, then within 3 months was $159. Everyone's going to be hurting come winter.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

On my bill, there is a running total of how much money I have paid through equal billing and how much my consumption is. If you have this, check your last bill and see what it says. If you usage is a lot lower, then there is a chance that there is a leak. You should also double check the numbers on your bill with the numbers on your meter to see if they are close as there could be an error there as well.
Love like crazy everyday and smile.

Took a look at latest bill as account is back to Union Gas as supplier. EBP is now going to be $124/month.
Insert-am posting here for all of those wanting to read the literature that natural gas prices have been low for 10 years. Notice the graph on p. 2-price is higher in 2014 than 2013 (so that shows the OEB approval increase being phased in).
However, I did notice along with storage and delivery fees, both fees had adjustments to add more to the fees. Not feeling the "low" gas price story. Seems that this winter won't be as much a problem as last one.

So this winter, we won't be reading about low gas reserves and insufficient supply?

I have a 700 sqft house that is heated exclusively by gas fireplace and our bills are no where near $120!!! We're always in the $150 range with enbridge. When we moved in we were considerably lower but then I got notice in the mail that OEB approved for enbridge to double their rates effective 30 days or something like that.
I love winter and all but the price to heat a small home like ours is insane!Insert Clever Signature Here
