After having gone to the kids to kids sale a few weeks ago and my first mom to mom(MTM) sale in April this year, I decided I'd go to the MTM sale last week. I was disappointed that the other mom who is also a neighbour, whom had educated me about the existence of this event told me she wasn't going so I made up my mind to go solo. I had advised DH in advance though I knew finishing touches ( painting) would be done in the basement that weekend. Well, I got up and replied to that friends text that I'm about to go to the MTM sale. She then said I didn't know u were going. I told her she should know me & that I mentioned to her in our previous conversation that I'm ISO a sleigh/ wagon and a drum set for DS. She then said she would come with me. She was lucky because I would have left around 8:00 but DH came in from work and said his friend is there to prime walls etc. so they needed to go get materials.I had made him breakfast too priory to him dropping that news on me. I was not happy. It seemed like the day was going to end without him returning. DS was still asleep & even if he was awake, I would have been setback even further & it would be crazy with an active male toddler..lol)..i waited impatiently by the window while keeping the text conversation with my friend. As soon as his friends car drove up , I went out & he was telling me to take DS but I refused( he has been stubborn with our basement Reno & made it drag out til now & I'm to continue suffer the consequences? He could have done that the day before ).
Anyway, we got to the sale at 11:00 AM which is the time I wanted to leave had things gone as planned. We missed getting a goody bag( only to first 100/200) ppl in line. That was ok though as the entry fee was for charity. Vendors overload and a lot of buyers but we rocked the sale. Found one mom who had a ton of clothing in great condition at $2/ set or piece depending. Even the few new items that still had price tags were reasonably priced.I met another mom there and we started trading stuff from the pile for our sons the we decided to keep in touch thus exchanged #s. I did find a drum , priced $3 but I paid $2, a bilingual book $$.50, a bilingual portable toy priced $5, I paid $2( she originally refused to lower the price for my fried - yikes- awkward) , 2 other bigger toys, I was for $7 & still in unopened box & the other was $8.. I was deliberating which of the two I should take, then the vendor says I'll give you both for $10..sold. We then went in another building & I found a wooden rocking horse for $5.i didn't even try to haggle because that price was already amazing.I had ( well) spent around $45. My friend had found some really great items (only toys & books as he fiancé hates the idea of gently used clothing... well so was my DH until he really saw the general price on regular kids clothing in stores & the kids outgrow them so fast). The mindset of some of the vendors is to get rid of items by dropping the original prices they had in mind as closing time approaches bcuz they don't want to take back stuff to their dwellings.. I felt that though we were late, the stars were aligned for us and we got some great items t great prices. I only recently started this lifestyle and I'm enjoying every bit of it. I still shop like other people for myself & family in regular stores but nothing to me like a great deal.
On that note of gently used stuff,my nice neighbour (another one) had texted me shortly i got home from the MTM sale, asking if I know anyone who needed a extra at seat. She tried selling it on Kijiji but they told her to remove the post as it is illegal to sell a used car seat??? well, since it expires in 2016 and we needed an extra one (since we have two cars),I accepted the offer and she literally walked across our adjoining lawn to bring it to us. Totally love this free Britax car seat..really love these neighbours..such cool ppl. This thread is currently associated with: N/A

What a shop... well done you! Be proud of the $ you just saved your family.
I have been thrifting/second hand buying for my kids for many many years and they are very well dressed and always had something to play with (often clothing is brand new or next to new and after a double wash good to go). So many of my friends won't thrift for clothing, and that is ok too. Personally I would rather have the $ to spend on good quality shoes, basics (socks/undies) few new pieces to fill out their wardrobe and FOOD for their bellies.

Great deals Shirnette!! My husband and I were like your husband, when we were younger, we only wanted new for our first child then someone said why don't you check out some garage sales for the Little Tyke, fisher price doll house etc..I did and I was hooked, most of the items were like new!! I have never looked back!! Then I went to Value Village for Halloween costumes and I realized they had a lot of nice things, so I was hooked again until recently when their prices started resembling department stores!! I used to get beautiful fall/winter coats for less than $10.00 recently I went and one that I liked was $69.99!!!! There are a lot of deals every where we just have to know where to look!!

Sounds like the day ended up just right with the deals even though it didn't start that way. I don't have kids but I know they will cost a bundle so knowing about this will be a big help when they come around.
Great brag!
