You'll be just fine, Hon!!
GENERIC NAME: hylan G-F 20
BRAND NAME: Synvisc, Synvisc-One
DRUG CLASS AND MECHANISM: Hylan G-F 20 is an injectable fluid that is used to treat osteoarthritis of the knee. Osteoarthritis is a type of arthritis in which the joints of the body degenerate and become painful and stiff. Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis; almost 10 million Americans suffer from osteoarthritis. Most affected persons are over 45 years of age, and women are more often affected than men. Joints contain a fluid, called synovial fluid, which acts as a lubricant and shock absorber. Patients with osteoarthritis have synovial fluid that is thinner than normal, and, therefore, it is less effective as a lubricant and shock-absorber. Hylan G-F 20 is an elastic fluid that is made from a substance called hyaluronan, that is found in normal joint fluid. Hyaluronan is the key substance in joint fluid that provides the shock-absorbing quality to the fluid, and it is essential for the proper functioning of joints. When injected into the knee of a patient with osteoarthritis, hylan G-F 20 helps to restore the shock-absorbing effect of the fluid within the knee. This can reduce pain, resulting in a more active lifestyle.
Activity level: For a few days after receiving the injection, avoid strenuous activities such as jogging, tennis, heavy lifting, or standing for a long time. Consult your doctor before restarting these activities.

Hope all goes well - that actually sounds like a great med. Is it one shot, or a series?
Make sure you get a list of possible side effects from your orthopod.

It was interesting reading about it.
When I last saw my orthopod, he had mentioned if things weren't getting better, he would do cortisone shots in my knee - failing that, I was a candidate for knee replacement. I've been able to deal with things, though.
The females in our family have chondromalacia patella- and then add osteoarthritis to that as we have gotten older, gah! Knee problems just very common through my mom's side of the family.

Natalka, when I'm in physio I see all those knee replacement people coming and going, and I'm still there, lol...They do look like they're in some discomfort, but it seems to pass relatively quickly...are you considering replacement? Friends who have had their knees replaced feel like a million bucks!

If orthotics are the way to go, perhaps it's good to go with the least invasive option first.
What's your diagnosis?
