I used TurboTax online was not impressed we had to pay for it this year - $45. In past years we haven't had to pay for it despite having the same kind of slips/deductions. Our returns are pretty simple a few T4's usually, medical expenses and then just rent receipts.

I don't think I will proceed with Turbo Tax anymore based on the fact that suddenly we are now being charged to use it plus the fact that WSIB payments are not supposed to be taxed yet when we entered the information our refund went down by $150.

This year we did Netfile which we had never done before and I was so confused because TurboTax website didn't provide any information regarding it so I had to go research it after I had already done it because I didn't know what to do with all my receipts and slips. I like the fact that I don't have to go through all the trouble of photocopying and submitting them but I think its a really bad service to offer because so many people could lie about a lot of things and get away with it because chances are there aren't many people being audited.

If you had to pay $ 45 for the online version.

Isn't the retail store bought one cheaper.

I know someone who got one from Best Buy for $ 20 and it comes with 4 Returns inside I.e there were 4 activation codes inside to do 4 individual returns. The same one they were charging him $ 19.99 per return online , what a scam

They are just confusing people with online and retail store versions, plus different types like Basic, Standard, Premium etc ..to make more money.

Speaking of students: if anyone spent at least $100 or more in tuition fees at the same school for 2015, your T2202A is likely waiting to be printed from your student portal account as of yesterday. Continuing education, part-time studies or full-time studies...

Yeah those were my thoughts exactly when they prompted for my CC info. I went on Walmart.ca and found the disk version much cheaper but one would think the online version should be the one thats cheaper. They probably make less margin on the disk version + what do I want the silly disk for when I'm just going to toss it after I'm done. Plus the disk version I was looking at you get 8 returns on.

Just leaves such a sour taste in my mouth. Anyone got any suggestions for another easy to use program for next year?

2014 tax year we used GenuTax Standard, was easy to use. This year when I prepared our taxes I went to the CRA certified software link, and did not see GenuTax software certified for the 2015 tax year (this was last week; it is now available as a certified software for the 2015 tax year). So I decided to use Simple Tax, it is an online program. No software downloading required, and it was very easy to use.

I heard Simple Tax is pretty easy to use and free. Studio Tax is not bad either, but I found their user interface a bit unfriendly.

The best thing is to use the paid Turbo Tax online version, just to calculate the return, but not actually file it, that's when you have to pay. So bail out at the last step, where they ask you for your CC etc. By now you already know the refund amount and have a hang of it. Just note down what slips & boxes & forms & expenses you filled or were asked to fill along the way.

Then just use the FREE Turbo tax one online to actually file the return, that's what I did . If the numbers tally in both cases i.e the Free & Paid one, you are on the right track & good to go . A bit time consuming doing it twice, but worth it if you have the time & want to save a few bucks. Took me around 15 mins to do each one, the paid & free one.

Yup , Direct Deposit is the same day , the Notice of Assessment is mailed out or available online for viewing. I chose online NOA from this year onwards, don't really need a hard copy in mail.

I use TurboTax simple because it is what my mom used to do our taxes in highschool/university and so I've continued with that now that I do our taxes (Me, DH, DB, DB-GF). I always buy it on amazon when it goes on sale at the start of February. ($25 for the standard version with 8 Returns)

Netfiled for DH & I on Monday, was assessed and now Notice of Assessment/Deposit available on March 10th. Looking forward to our little return. Almost all of our files are digital now, I only keep legal documents and tax receipts in hard copy format so the online Notice of Assessment is great!
