GTAA says contingency plan in place for potential baggage handler strike

There is still no word of movement between Swissport workers at Pearson airport and their employer with just hours to go before a strike deadline. Baggage and cargo handlers for 30 airlines could walk off the job tonight. Their union is asking members to reject the company's latest offer. Issues include the decision last spring to hire temporary workers and their inefficient training. The Greater Toronto Airports Authority says it will have a contingency plan in place if there is a labour disruption.

Ohio State Fair 'Fire Ball' ride accident kills 1, injures 7 others

One man was killed while seven other people were injured when a ride malfunctioned at the Ohio State Fair in Columbus on Wednesday. An 18-year-old man was tossed from the Fire Ball ride and killed on impact, about 50 feet (15 m) from the ride. the accident occurred when a section of open-air seating snapped off the ride. The seats are in a circular configuration and at the end of an arm that lifts riders as they are being spun. The same ride has been at the CNE but operated by a different company.

Smoak, Morales go deep in ninth as Blue Jays walk off Athletics

Justin Smoak tied the game with a two-run homer in the ninth, and Kendrys Morales followed with a solo shot as the Toronto Blue Jays rallied for a 3-2 walkoff win over the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday.
