A word of caution for a new scam. Just saw it on the news report at Walmart. Someone is able to simply take a picture of the bar-code at the back of a card and then use it at the self-scanning registers to pay bills.

I think that this means if someone buys a card and then loads it with money, the person who stole (photographed) the bar-code can then just use the image and withdraw money directly from the gift-card. Beware.

I think you are referring to CBC News. In the CBC News video and article, another gift card scam is also mentioned, where a fraudster places a sticker of the bar code of a gift card the fraudster owns overtop another gift card's bar code and leaves it in the store waiting for someone to purchase it.

I didn't see it mentioned and sometimes people forget this busy time of year. Subway has their annual buy a $25 gift card and get any 6 inch sub for free. The offer itself is usually available until Christmas. I couldn't see an end date on the offer. You can either get the gift card expiring Jan. 31st 2023 for the free 6 inch or redeem for the free 6 inch right away. Happy Holidays one and all.
