Today was the first time in I think ever...epic recipe FAIL!
I bought a big bag of basmati rice recently, was looking for creative things to do with it, found a recipe for lemon rice. I love lemon, it sounded great, and had wonderful reviews.

I like to try new recipes, allrecipes.com is a go-to site for me. Some recipes turn out great, some need tweaks, some are just OK, never are they a total fail. I think this was the first new recipe I've found online and tried that was completely inedible. It tasted bad, and smelled worse! I think that part of the problem was the big, beautiful lemon I bought today for it. It was too big, provided at least half a cup of juice, and I think that was its downfall. Too sour!
The leftover burgers I grilled the other night and the salad I made were still awesome (bought romaine at Costco, so cheap but too much, we're eating salad for awhile!), as was the plain basmati rice I cooked after.
Tomorrow I plan on making a mushroom sauce with roast ham in it, served with pasta, balsamic vinegar and oil to dip some whole wheat bread in, with a glass of milk. I might make banana chocolate chip muffins tomorrow, so we could have those for dessert.
beef stew with carrots and stouffer's crustini
Tomato spinach tossed pasta with parmesan cheese
I have lots of leftovers from the schnitzel, so will heat that and will make a toasted club sandwich and a salad with lots of fresh veggies & French dressing.
maybe a Cesar salad or pasta or tomatoes sandwich....depends on DH...will ask him
With the second chicken I had roasted Monday, I had been using white meat for sandwiches, so took off the rest of it - then cut up the dark meat to use in chicken stew. I had some with leftover smashed potatoes and fresh French bread. Husband will first have the bones and carcass stuff and skin, with fresh bread and potatoes, and he can always have stew, too (though he usually doesn't have room).
Tonight was easy- we had a vegetarian quiche-with artichokes, broccoli and peppers. Even better it was prepared by the school chef and given to my husband who had helped him in the kitchen. It also came with a ceasar salad- but I figured since the quiche covered all the food groups I would have my salad for lunch tomorrow. Can't beat a supper prepared by a chef in my opinion.
Makin' a newfie jiggs dinner and having a few in to eat and run...lol..salt beef, cabbage, turnip, carrot, potato, pea's pudding, molasses pudding, bread pudding, beef roast & gravy...yummo..

Grilled burgers on homemade (vegan) buns and wedges
Gee, being creative is taking its toll! Had leftover hotdogs in fridge, so sliced them thinly and fried them up with some jarred sauerkraut, added onion and garlic powder, and Italian seasoning - would have been fine for me, but husband isn't a fan of the sharp flavour, so I knew I had to make it sweeter - spotted some Pepsi on the counter - added some, and sure enough, just sweet enough to mellow the taste! Necessity is surely the mother of invention!
Husband had his - along with tons of pepper - over leftover mashed potatoes, I had mine over pasta. It turned out really good, lol!
3/4 plate of veg and 5 oz fillet of baked salmon.
Yay, discovered we had bananas so had a split! Nice to have all the components!
I wasn't well prepared for dinner, so stopped at Sobeys on the way home and got some spaghetti sauce and garlic bread, pulled some homemade cooked meatballs out of the freezer. The sauce that was on sale was Ragu, it was OK, but I still prefer the Catelli I normally buy. I hope it goes on sale again soon! I bought at least a dozen jars last time it was $1 at No Frills, but they're all gone now.
My jiggs dinner turned out really good yesterday and luckily there are lots of leftover (I cooked way too much..lol) so I like to cut up everything into bite size pieces and cook in a frying pan and "hash" it all up...sometimes I think the leftover hash is better than the original meal!
Thinking pasta tonight. with bruchetta bread with feta!
Tonight is salsa chicken (bbq baked for dh) with sweet potatoes and broccoli.
Planned to have this last night but went out instead

Just back from grocery shopping so now I know my menu for tonight. Roast chicken, dressing, corn on the cob, yam, broccoli and watermelon for dessert.
shopped at 5 stores beginning at 7:00 a.m. Managed to roast 2 whole chickens up while the pressure cooker was tenderizing the various cuts of beef I found marked down ( woot! woot! ) Once it was nice and tender and I added it to many things.
Got the barley boiling for DH's beef and barley soup. Made a simple beef and broccoli dish, a larger stir fry with beef, bokchoy, water chestnuts, onion, carrot, celery, red pepper and my GF fake soya sauce. Hmmmm, common word in there BEEF!
Tried the Shirataki noodles ( fettuccine ones ) for the first time ever! These are only 20 calories a serving!!
Was really glad a member told me RINSE them completely first to get that funky smell off and then pat dry before cooking!
I put pork sirloin chops into my crockpot overnight, having basmati rice with it. I am not having any, I went out to lunch and had a big meal there and am not hungry!
Perogies with sauteed onions and sour cream tonight, along with baked salmon cakes.
Natalka-sounds yummy to me!
Rainy day here today so not sure if bbqing is in the plan. Still in bed lol so should get up and figure out the day/ dinner. Potatoes, chicken, ceaser salad and veggie I think. Have all on hand so think that is the plan.
i'm making a cream of mushroom pasta, using 2% milk instead of cream and corn starch as a thickening agent.
today is going to be a naughty, munchie day...nachos baked in the oven with ground beef, onion, mushroom, yellow pepper, lots of melted cheese, topped with sour cream & salsa...honey garlic chicken wings...I have a fresh baguette ready to be sliced and toasted with butter & garlic and topped with Artichoke & Asiago dip..AND..to top it off, I p/u a few+ small tubs of those free ice cream at NO Frills (breyers $0.97-$1.00 coupon), so will put a generous scoop between 2 farmer market oatmeal, chocolate chip cookies to make an ice cream sandwich :excited:
I made chicken kabobs, using this recipe:

Instead of breasts I used thighs that I'd boned. I use thighs for everything chicken, much moister than breasts. I also used more peanut butter, added honey in place of some of the brown sugar. Marinated for an hour or so, threaded onto wooded skewers (soaked in water for an hour or so so they will not catch on fire), then put on the bbq. They were AWESOME, DH and DS loved them too. Served with rice and veggies.
All of the above sound amazeballs and yummy!
I've got potato wedges roasting in the oven, in a bit of oil, seasoned with Italian herb mix, garlic, onion, s+p, and some beef bouillon powder. Will cook seasoned boneless pork bites from our butcher (they are v. good!), and have a salad as well.
BBQ today!! Ribs for a change..will boil them out first to save some time and then grill over a slow heat and slather with Diana's rib sauce until they are a little charred and all caramelized and sticky...I'm having sticky ribs!!..and rice.. R&R!!
black forest ham and cheese sandwich with mayo and mustard and three side pickeles.
