*IMPORTANT* Private Messages Limit to be Reduced to 100

Hey guys!

It seems like the huge amounts of private messages are the reason the server has been lagging and slow recently. So we'll need to all cooperate to fix this problem please.

I used to give each one of you space for 5,000 (and some have 50,000 I think) private messages to help make your life easier. But when everyone has thousands of private messages the server simply can't take it anymore. So I'll have to cut down the max number of private messages to say 100? by next week.

So please make sure you go through your private messages and get rid of the ones you don't need. If you have say 150 when I change the limit to 100 next week your inbox will be full and no one will be able to contact you.

I think 100 should be enough but if you think it's not please let me know. I don't want to make your life tough and I don't want to do like other websites and charge for more pm space. I just need to make sure the servers are kept alive and in good shape for the sake of keeping the website fast and thus making everyone's life better

I strongly recommend you download your private messages first to avoid deleting something important by mistake:

1. Go to http://forum.smartcanucks.ca/private.php
2. Scroll to the bottom
3. Download all Private Messages as: XML | CSV | Text
4. Download your messages in all 3 formats, you have nothing to lose.

I don't know why I keep all my messages, especially since I have all the PMs sent to my personal email automatically...so I have them twice!!

For the most part I try to keep mine clean, but when you are a train conductor of multiple trains you tend to have a lot of messages saved (addresses for current trains etc). I would say 100 is a tad low. I think 150-200 would work.

I totally understand about trying to keep the site running quickly, and I appreciate you taking steps!

Thanks for letting us know. I gotta delete a bunch of my messages, I have like 250 I think. 500 would of been nice cause of all the trading going on, but no complaints from me, I understand.

What about getting rid of some of the redundant threads in the Expired/Repost section of the board? Nearly 36,000 (now useless) threads with a total of 270,000 + posts has got to put a strain on the server.

I was going to just suggest this too, do these threads get deleted at some point? Some expired are really old and need to go/should go to save space.

Good idea .. or they could be archived somehow instead I believe.
