The only part I wouldn't like (well, apart from scooping all those cat litter boxes) is adopting them out. I would bawl every time one of them left for their new home

At one point, I used to be an overnight stop for rescue dogs on their way to new homes. Had my heart broken a few times when the overnight stay turned into a week (my heart can't handle it anymore).

I've taken a few stray cats off the streets (actually, they followed my dog home). I've always had to find homes within 24 hours - if they stay any longer, it gets too hard to give them up. & I'm in a tiny studio, so there really is no more room in this inn.

Quincy, my cat in my siggy, was supposed to go to a neighbour, but he attacked the poor person, everyone thought he was too wild & feral, so he stayed. Now he's a big baby (he's in training to do therapy work, but he's still a bit shy).

It's one of the reasons I can't take in anyone else.

One of the critters I took in for a week, ended up going to a bad situation - the adopter lied about a number of things. Poor guy came back into the rescue a completely different personality (not in a good way). I still feel guilty about him, feel like I failed him.

Now, I do what I can but try to not interact with the critters. I look for potential adopters & do research online.

There's lots of ways to help these critters, without having to risk having your heart broken. I have one friend who knits baby toques to put orphaned kittens in & keep them warm when they're being bottle fed.
