DH, I was on metformin a few years ago for my PCOS (a metabolic disorder, part of it is a propensity to insulin resistance).
Gosh, it's hard on the gut. I started on one 500mg pill for two weeks, then increased by another for two weeks, then up to three then. Sorry, if TMI, but diarrhea and gut pain was really bad at first, body does get used to the meds, though - that's why dosage is usually increased slowly. Felt nauseated a lot of the time, and much more fatigued.
You've got to be alert to the signs of low blood sugar (dizzy, feel faint) - and eat/snack regularly - I went through that a few times before I realized what it was.
After a month, I think all was okay with side effects...
I hope the dr. told you that one side effect is that testosterone is lowered... an okay side effect for women, not so good for men...
I hope all goes well for you.

Don't try to cut anything out completely, your body will only crave it more. Everything in moderation is the key. If you're addicted to soft drinks, try switching to diet (I know for some it's blech!) or add lots & lots of ice to your glass (water it down without it tasting watered down). Also, you can indulge in some of the cravings by offsetting a few things with exercise. It's a bit stressful at first to get used to these sorts of things, eventually, you'll get into a rhythm.
& you're lucky. When I was first monitoring my blood sugar, the "glucometer" was the size of an encyclopedia & those needles were the diameter of a pencil!

I can cut out anything I want without a problem. It just takes a little willpower. I would never touch a diet drink anyway, they taste like crap to me. I'll stick to tea and water from now on. the meter is the size of a flip phone and it came with a little gadget to prick my finger that makes it fast and relatively painless. If I want a good quality life, I will follow doctor's orders.

I have a pretty powerful incentive to make time for some willpower.

Good thing I have a big honking pot to put that cabbage in. Didn't realize how huge it was but it will make great cabbage rolls.
By the way Larry, Brigitte cancelled on me so I am not going out tonight.
