*sigh* This is something we can thank scammers for. Our Shoppers was having a huge problem with people coming in and buying an enormous amount of stuff with coupons and then returning it all a few days later for full cash. Now all coupons are rung in right after the product has been scanned and if they still have them in the store you can have them back, otherwise you can have the amount that you actually paid for them. It's sad but as usual a few bad apples spoiled it for everyone.

I think I would have asked for my coupons back as well since they do have a value, thankfully you dealt with this is a very professional way. As you said you had a little one with you that did not need to be subjected to a shouting match. I have also returned something I used a coupon for and the cashier said it was impossible to return the coupon but since it was clearly marked on receipt the store will get the amount anyway so refunded me full amount.

I never thought to do that when I need to return things. Thankfully I never really return things I used coupons for except for one printable. The cashier only gave the amount I paid for it and I had expected it to be the case so I didn't think much of it. But I do agree with a lot of you here that coupons do have value and if the store are going to send them in and get $ back for them, why are we not able to get them back?

Stores are becoming more strict on not allowing returns on items with no receipts due to shoplifting. They don't want to give someone money for an item they stole and are now "returning." Which personally, I agree with. So now I keep ALL receipts for a month and then go through them at the end of the month to see which ones I still need to keep or get rid of.

In our case, when we purchased lightbulbs from WM with the $4 coupon, DH returned a couple because they didn't work. We received a full cash refund.
Personally, I don't think the cashier should've removed the coupon amount because, as you said, this is like cash for the store.
Next time, just don't mention you used a coupon on the item, I guess.

I had experienced both - one when they return the coupons (if the return was same day) or when they reimburse the full amount because the coupons have already been processed (the return was days later).

Unless you buy one item, how will they know which product you used a coupon for. You should just get the regular price back, the coupon has already been deducted at the end of the reciept so your not losing anything.
