I knit and donated to our soup kitchen, about a dozen toques, all different, all sizes....I also make a Christmas donation to a charity on behalf of our Grandson, as well as a monthly donation through our TD bank ... I'll keep busy during my continuing recovery by knitting squares for our cancer hospital wing...they have gals crocheting them together to make shawls/lap blankets for patients....that's about it...

I donate food items to the food bank and donate used, good condition clothes to the homeless shelter. So far I've collected pair of winter boots, gloves, scarves, hats and some shirts.

honestly, not much. I used to give money to about 6-10 charities regularly when I worked, but as of last year when I retired I cut off every one of them to take stock of our own financial situation. At some point I will find something that fits for us, but since we still have 2 offspring living here preparing for their future, money does not stretch very far.

We tend to donate food items, soaps, shampoos, and clothes to the local women's shelter, Salvation Army, and soup kitchen.

I will also be voting daily in December for a project I consider very worthwhile that will help serve the less fortunate in North End Halifax. It takes 5 seconds of my time and won't cost me a darn thing. It's the least I can do. I posted about it in the "Halifax" thread, if you would like to know more, and maybe join in on the voting next month!

well wob you are in big trouble
i understand the lack of funds, but freerice costs nothing
just some brain power (although after working at cp,,,)
and how about knitting - or learning how to?
very relaxing, and nice to think of someone being warmer
because of you. i wish the kitty didn't think when i do knit
    the yarn wasn't a toy.

gee lynn toques? have never tried making one of those.
lost my tension years ago, so only safe to knit things where
    that is not important, darn.

have i mentioned lately that freerice can be fun?
and a site you might want to tell others about?
i dare anyone to break my record of 10,000 grains
of rice in one day. (have wondered what that would
look like - hoping a lot)
they have many more subjects then when i started,
    if that irks your interest

I don't think we can judge another person's ability to either sew, knit or sit in front of a computer with regards to what WE feel they SHOULD be doing to contribute to society. I'm sure Walks would give someone the shirt off her back if they needed it, and if that's all she or anyone on here has time for, then that's fantastic. This isn't a contest, one person isn't better than another person for what they can or cannot do, and guilting someone into it certainly isn't in keeping with the Christmas spirit.
If you meant your first comments in jest, then I apologize if I mis-interpreted it, Chives.

The local LD is collecting gifts for seniors who cannot leave their houses. They just want shampoo, lotion and such in a gift bag. I don`t have extra to spend but I do have extra to share thanks to couponing so I`ll be contributing to this program as well as the food drive done by the Salvation Army and food for a local cat rescue.

I JUST saw what you had posted madchives, but I know how you like to jive around with me in here, no problem. You know what though?

I have no idea what freerice is, but at this point I also do not really want to know either. My plate is very full
( NO pun intended ) with my own family and I have enough responsibilities to fill my day with. There will be NO guilt trip placed upon me today. I do believe that a true giver is one that does not boast but just gives.

My donation are for family members first and than I also help some friend that are really in need. I donate 4 x a year to the food bank and also the SPCA wich this one is dear to me. Not enought help for animals. I also donate all my close that I dont need 1x a year. That is all I can do for now. Wen I will be able to give more, I will for sure. I beleave the same thing as Walkonby " I do believe that a true giver is one that does not boast but just gives. .. .........................................
