I don't know, I used to get my pap's at our family doctor ages ago, same one that my mom went to, cause it was a family doctor right. Well she used to talk about my mom and asking me about how it was at home and stuff... it was just uncomfortable, plus the same person checking my mom is checking me, kinda weird. And ya, I find she didn't believe me when I made assumption about my health, I haven't been back to her in ages.

My gyno actually does my paps for me, its great because she does so many its like a 15 second process, even with the extra q tip swipes she does to check for infections :D U know compared to a 60 year old family dr that wants to talk about the cows he just sold and take 45 minutes......Lmao!
Seriously Rose if your dr doesn't take you seriously start looking for a new one.
This is not a guys thread hahah

Ya my doc doesnt book me for anything he just says I'm too young or he writes me a prescription without sending me to a specialist or anything its frustrating...my hormones probably are very out of whack but again the doc wont do squat for me...I havent even become "regular" yet with my cycles...was on birth control from 13-16 then stopped because of the increased cancer risk but everytime I go about stuff like that he gives me a prescription for birth control ughhhhh

Yes, you should get it looked at and yes you need a new doctor!
Cancer is in your family....that puts you had a higher risk of cancer in all your lady parts!! You need to be having a pap test! They are suppose to start at 18yrs old, or under if you are sexually active.
As for your cramps...there is some serious wonder drugs out there! GET A DIFFERENT DOCTOR! I had a HORRIBLE dr that suggest some women are just unlucky like that...I got a new dr! Or ask your dr for a referal to a gyno. You qualify with extreme cramps, you could have an underlaying medical condition that can easily be treated.
As for the lump....at 20 its not likely cancer....BUT my 13yr old cousin had breast cancer so it does happen!
As for not doing self examinations....guess who found the lump on my mothers breast. HER, not the breast cancer clinic, not the mammogram and certainly not the RN that told it was just an oil gland it would just go away!
And Sally I can't believe you waited 4 months!!!!!
Blackrose....if theres anything you don't want to post publicly feel free to PM me. You don't have to suffer, you just need a decent doctor!

Actually birth control really does help releive cramps. But there is totally different levels of hormones and risks of cancer.
You have better odds of getting cancer sitting in the same room as a smoker.
You need a spealist who is going to weigh your options with you...and ofcourse the wonderful meds that can help.

My family doctor was fine to get me on birth control, my mom wasn't so willing. However, I was only on them for a couple of years and went off. I don't have a gyno, but I think they would be the best at pap's cause that is what they do.

If theres a shortage of doctors (here too, mines 5hrs away!) then go to the walk in or the hospital tell them you are having a lot of problems and you would like a referal to a gyno. Either say you don't have a family dr or tell them he won't give you a pap.
I don't know where you are....major citys have women's clinics that doctors volunteer at.
Also since you are under 24 a RN at a health unit can give you a pap test. They can also give you a referal to a gyno.

I had to wait 4 months to get into get the ultrasound, I went to my dr right away got the requisition then had to book an appt. Apparently they only do "lumps" on certain days and the actual xray technician reads them right away rather then sending them to the city for someone to read them. It was the EARLIEST appt they had.
I personally do breast exams on myself but found it interesting a lot of dr's are now saying don't bother. I like to be in tune with my body. I usually know if I've gotten a new freckle haha.Last edited by Sally888; Tue, Feb 9th, 2010 at 11:59 PM.

I agree with everyone who says you need a new dr but if you can't get one Rose look at the dr and remind him that you have been seeing him for years since you were a child and now due to your family history he needs to take your concerns seriously. Sometimes drs become like family, my mom and I had the same dr for years he screwed up with me caused me to be hospitalized so I changed drs. Mom kept him for almost 30 years more until he retired. Good luck with the lump my cousin also just had a lump on her right breast and it turned out to be a hormone thing so don't freak out yet.
