Quick answers..
I was in the hospital for a week after I had the surgery and then I had a cast on for 6 weeks. My toe didn't set properly so I can't bend it like I should be able to. The bunion on my right foot wasn't nearly as bad so they just left it. I don't think it's grown any bigger but you've clued me in to why I may be getting the pains...
I have NO arches on my feet. When I'm wet/sweaty and stand in place for a minute I get that 'suction cup' noise when I go to move. Up until now I haven't had any major issues with my feet so I delayed getting the orthotics - and I didn't have the $400 to dish out for them. I don't own a credit card either.
I've lost about 25 pounds in the last 8 months and I'm now working in a convenience store so I'm standing 5+ hours at a time - on Saturday it was 8.5 hours (no breaks) so my feet were aching yesterday and I spent it at Canada's Wonderland in the rain.
My bunion really isn't that big and my big toe is only a bit crooked. I have a hard time finding shoes that fit AND are comfortable. I never wear heels and I live in loose runners. I'm just figuring out that my flat foot issue affects the way I walk because I can't wear sandals with no back on them - they fly off my feet as I'm walking. I also can't wear the ones with plastic/leather between the big & second toe because I get blisters from it.
I'm going to take a pic and send it to you. I would imagine that once I get orthotics it will ease some of the pain but a second opinion would be great!

Your feet look really great, considering! They did a fantastic job on your foot that had the surgery, and I have seen some seriously messed up feet... lol.

Honestly, you did nail it with what you said. Flat feet are a HUGE contributor to bunion pain, and if you have recently been having long periods of time where you are standing without a break, that is probably a big part of the pain as well. I know the orthotics are SO expensive, but if you can even afford them at all, try to do it for yourself. I doubt from the look of your "Bad" foot that you will ever need surgery on it, but the pain can be excruciating, I know. There is nothing quite like tooth or foot pain. Even if you couldn't afford the orthotics, you could get a good pair of arch supports and some of those silicone toe seperators. They sell both things at Shoppers, and they can help immensely. You just need a good-fitting shoe to wear them in to help both things work properly.

I hope that just triggering those things in your mind put your thoughts at ease at least a tiny bit. Sometimes we do things that we don't even realize are causing issues (and cannot be helped, even if they are!) but we just need someone else to mention it to figure it out

I know what you mean about bunions. I have some pretty mean ones myself. I need surgery on them badly, but I keep putting it off. I can't afford much downtime right now with a 15 month old. He's a little high maintenance right now.

I have two pairs of orthotics ... thankfully, both were covered under my previous drug plan that I had. I wear slippers all of the time, and have a pair in there, as well as a pair in my everyday shoes. The orthotics helped immensely with a lot of the pain, but I'm also not standing on my feet for 10 hours a day anymore either.

I, too, have issues finding comfortable shoes that fit. I hate shoe shopping because of it.

I hope that you can find some sort of relief from the pain.

thank you very much for the replies to my question.... now I have another.
I go see my dr in 2 weeks and I was going to have him refer me to a podiatrist to get my feet looked at. When I saw the dr. a few months ago I told him I needed a scrip for orthotics because I have flat feet and I'd like to start walking more. I didn't have the aches and pains at that point. He gave me the scrip, no questions asked. Right now if I walk at a regular pace for more than 30 minutes I get blisters between my toes and my back just aches. The back aches I used to attribute to big boobs and bad posture. lol

Should I bother waiting for the referral appointment (which could be in a few weeks or months) or just go ahead and get the orthotics? Jim got some money that he's insisting he keep to get his eyes done but I think orthotics and new glasses are more important. Besides, he thinks he can get his eyes done for $2000 and I know it's not possible.

Is it worth the wait?

I also have bunions, but not bad enough for surgery. They sure can be painful though.
