Amy, what is the name of the eye medication they put him on? Did you buy them over the counter, or were they from a doctor?
Sometimes the mucus can keep on (especially after sleeping) for a while. It does not mean he is contagious, however keep an eye out for blocked tear ducts. It can happen a lot because of pink eye, and is very painful.
I know all about the morning eye scrubbing on little kids, and I'm sure it is terrible. You could give him a wet teabag to hold on it for a few minutes before you scrub (if he'll do it) it is very soothing, and the tannins in the tea are a mild numbing agent as well as a mild astringent, and should help loosen it up a lot before you have to use a warm facecloth to get all the junk off his eye. (I know, asking a lot of a little one, but I bet he might get a kick out of it if you phrase it right.. lol)
Thanks!! I was actually logging on to ask this very question
You have to tell us if you win! What kind of prizes can you get?

Morning all.
Thanks for all the words.
Amy - how's your little boy feeling? Any better?
Lolcat - how's your little girl? Did they ever figure out what was going on with all those infections the poor little one was having? How are you feeling these days?
Ricki - how are you feeling today? I agree about nothing much on tv. I got HBO for the summer, now I'm hooked (shoulda known better - gonna be hard to give it up).
Off to work on my spring cleaning (yes, I know I've been at it since last year, but I think I can actually almost see the light at the end of the tunnel - by fall I should be done ). Here it's dark & downright cold (ok, so it would be balmy if it were February, but it's July!).
Have a great day everyone!
