I pretty much just thumb up everything I even remotely like, asked or not.

Honestly, I often forget to give thumbs up for threads (I know...my bad) so this helps to remind me...so no I don't mind at all

I also think it's distasteful to ask for thumbs up. I always give thumbs up/thumbs down on every thread I read. I don't mind when people say 'Thanks in advance..." because it sounds nice and they're not literally asking/begging for it.

If the post is worth giving a rep or thumps up, I would give it regardless of asking or not

I pretty much thumbs up every link I go to read, doesn't matter to me whether they ask or not. I do like the "thanks in advance for the reps" rather than "give thumbs up" though although really until now I never really even thought of it

I'm not voting. To each their own. The request of a thumbs up will probably die off and the pertinent info will stay. The resurgence of the contest - and its being brought to the attention of those who were unaware of it - is bringing a bit of competitiveness out. I've also seen a bit of an increase in brags/deals being posted. It all adds up to more overall fun on SC.

I've been guilty of asking before. Sometimes when I put a lot of effort into a thread and spend a lot of time working on it I just politely remind people that if they like it to give me a thumbs up
... but that's just me, and this does not represent SC's official stance on this

If I'm going to put a thumbs up I do it whether or not they ask for one.

I give one when I feel inclined to, people asking does not sway me to give one, in fact, as many others have said, it might even sway me not too. Sorry - just being honest.
Granted, until I got used to the site, there were times that I forgot that the option existed.
This past summer (if I recall the time frame correctly) there was a bit if a kerfuffle regarding getting a thumbs down, and it became so uncomfortable just to go on this site as I would wonder what would be next in the way of the whining, being petty/upset and the ranting, passive agressiveness (or not so passive) and negativity that went with it. I was glad to see that some people challenged this behaviour (Hats off to you brave souls - I admit it, I wimped out even though I had lots to say
), but I was stressed and dimayed by how long it lasted before it stopped (let alone that it ever started). I was very relieved when it ended.
Now I have to figure out how to vote.

Being a newbie, I did not know the meaning of the Thumbs up,and that I was suppose to give it, if I thought the post was good

Although the thumbs up are good for posters contests, they are anonymous, the op cannot see who gave it. With reps, the member can see who shared some love with him
