Initiative Q is an attempt by ex-PayPal guys to create a new payment system instead of credit cards that were designed in the 1950s. The system uses its own currency, the Q, and to get people to start using the system once it's ready they are allocating Qs for free to people that sign up now (the amount drops as more people join - so better to join early). Signing up is free and they only ask for your name and an email address. There's nothing to lose but if this payment system becomes a world leading payment method your Qs can be worth a lot.

Extreme cold weather alert issued for Toronto

To say its cold outside would be a bit of an understatement. We’ve already set a cold temperature record for November 22, hitting minus 13 -- that's without the windchill. With that we've beat the previous record low for this day that was set at 12.4 degrees back in 1989. Global News Weather Specialist Mike Arsenault says the cold snap will be short lived though. An extreme cold weather alert remains in effect for the city.

TV dinners have Thanksgiving to thank. In 1953, someone at Swanson misjudged the number of frozen turkeys it would sell that Thanksgiving -- by 26 TONS! A plan to slice up that meat and repackage it with some trimmings on the side birthed the TV dinner!

$600M in federal funding for media

The government is pledging nearly $600 million over the next five years to help news organizations struggling to adapt to a digital age that has disrupted traditional business models. The initiative was announced yesterday in the Trudeau government's fall fiscal update, with details to come in the next federal budget. Finance Minister Bill Morneau said the government wants to protect the “vital role that independent news media play in our democracy and in our communities".

Hurricanes end Leafs' win streak

Trevor van Riemsdyk and Justin Williams scored 22 seconds apart in the first period, sending the Carolina Hurricanes to a 5-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night. Curtis McElhinney made 30 saves as Carolina snapped Toronto's four-game winning streak.
