GM rejects Unifor proposals to keep Oshawa assembly plant open past 2019

GM workers have staged a sit in and walk out in Oshawa. This after General Motors rejected various proposals by Unifor to keep the Oshawa assembly plant open past 2019. The company says the options suggested by Unifor would mean substantial incremental cost increases and hurt the company's competitive position, infuriating already frustrated union heads. Unifor says the company's decision to reject the latest proposals is motivated by "corporate greed".

Ontario fights legal challenge over province's decision to repeal sex-ed curriculum

A hearing will be held today for the applications of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario against the repeal of the 2015 sex education curriculum. Both groups allege the Conservative government's repeal of updates the previous Liberal regime made to the curriculum is unconstitutional, saying it puts students at risk. Those 2015 updates included lessons warning about online bullying and sexting but opponents, especially social conservatives, objected to parts addressing same-sex relationships and gender identity. Critics have also accused the Liberals of not consulting enough with parents.

Lowry, Leonard reunite to lead Raptors past Carter's Hawks

Kawhi Leonard and Kyle Lowry led the Toronto Raptors past Vince Carter and the Atlanta Hawks 104-11 in the first game the two played in together since Dec. 9. Carter had six points in 13 minutes of play for the Hawks in what may have been his final game in Toronto.
