I was in SDM yesterday and saw on the clearance rack, 5 bottles of Old Spice "Dry Skin Defense" Body Wash (kind of looked like Olay Ribbons - dark and light green stripes in the body wash. - They were on sale for $1.62 each.
Yes!!! I was sure I had coupons at home - Buy ANY (and there's the key word - ANY) Old Spice Product and get an Old Spice Body Wash for FREE. Which to me means buy the clearance body wash and get another body wash for free.
I thought I had more but did find 2 coupons.
I went in today and luckily there were 3 clearance body washes left. I picked up 2 and headed over to get the other body washes which would be free. They were NOT on sale and priced at $6.49.
Now - here clearly 2 different deals - one an instore reduction of a "going out of style" body wash and one MANUFACTURER's deal where the store gets rebated the cost of whichever body wash is redeemed for FREE.
The cashier charged me for the more expensive ones and gave me credit for the lower priced ones for free. I disagreed. I pointed out the "ANY" wording - it did not say - "get the lower priced item free" or "Buy 1 - Get 1 Free". She had to call up the manager who talked to me on the phone and finally agreed that the way I was interpretting the coupons was the way I should get it.
So for 2 "Dry Skin Defense" 295ml Body Washes
2 "High Endurance" Hair and Body Washes 532ml
and also a package of Oreo Vanilla Cookies on sale for $1.99, I paid.......
Ta Dah! $5.66
Persistence pays.
The cashier assured me that she just didn't want to get in trouble. I commisserated and suggested she put "manager okayed" on the coupons.

Nice deal! It really does pay to be persistent. Some cashiers would have you believe the sky is purple, or that Romaine is not lettuce (HAHA! couldn't resist!).

Usually such coupon's will have a line where you fill in the retail price of the Free product ( upto a certain maximum value ) ...so if she puts $ 6.49 ( non sale ones price ) as opposed to $ 1.62 ( sale ones price ) ... the store will get fully reimbursed for that as long as $ 6.49 is below or at the maximum value stated on the coupon

I don't know, it's pretty standard that with a bogo that the cheaper item is free, I can see where the cashier would just assume that's how this coupon works (as in, that's how every store does bogo sales). Please don't bash a cashier for making a *very* logical assumption about this.
BTW, good deals
It must have been nice to find a loop hole around that

I have even seen it in official coupon policies sent to me by stores that if not stated the lower priced item is the one you get free with BOGO / WUB deals so it is a very logical reaction from the cashier
But nice deal!
