    Would being an Air Miles Gold Member change that percentage point? (there seems to be some special flight deals for the gold members)...

    Here's my question: when I went home I noticed the cashier only rung in 99 cans of beans hence my total AM earned was 225. If she had rung it in as 100 cans of beans then I'd have 250AM. Because it's buy 10 get 25AM. Should I go back to the store, pay the $1 and get 25AM?
    Yes, go to customer service with the receipt. Make sure you get them to write it in the AirMiles book they have.

    Did you have any B3G1 coupons on the beans. 20 will cost me $15 and get 50 AMs ($7)

    Another question: I was planning to save the AMs for travel but is it better to get Shell gift cards? I always need gas. And don't you also get AM when you purchase gas at Shell? So you'd get some AM back, right?
    Shell gas coupons work out to 11.43 cents/AM which is one of the poorer deals. I recently converted for $200 worth of coupons but they had a special on that worked out to 13.33 cents/AM but that was the first time in years I recall that special was offered. Who knows when/if again? If you are specificall planning to use them to fly that would probably work out better.

    Would being an Air Miles Gold Member change that percentage point? (there seems to be some special flight deals for the gold members)...
    Yes.

    Depending on the time of the flight I specifically looked at the value was $0.20-$0.36. What times they would actually have seats available I can't say. Other flights in peak periods I looked at varied from $0.16 and above. A special would definitely boost those figures.

    Yes, but generally not that many to boost the 11.43 figure that much higher.

    Yes I used the B3G1 coupons on the beans. The other AMs are from other groceries that I bought for my family like Johnsonville sausages $3.99/package B3G25AM and Smuckers event B5G40AM (3 x Smuckers @ 2/$7 and 2 x Bick's pickles @ 2/$5) I had $0.50 off smuckers x 3 and $0.50 + $1.50 Bick's.

    Oh I "had" to get 4 chocolate bars to bring the total to over $100 so I can use the spend $100 get 100AM.

    Thanks

    On $20 Shell regular gas until Dec. with coupons you can get 5 bonus AMs.

    $20 coupon costs 175 AMs

    Accounting for the bonus reduces it to 175 - 5 + 170 AMs

    $20/170AMs = 11.76 cents/AM

    Now if you have the 10Xs coupon and use premium gas you can bring the value closer to about 13.5 cents on a $50 - $60 fill.

    Lousy week.

    Usually this time of year Safeway really pushes the AM specials especially the boxed frozen foods but it looks awful IMO.

    Hopefully the email.direct and next week are better.

    Dec. 13 - 19:

    In the following first number is sale price. Second number is effective value based on $0.14/AM). If there is a multiple offer, ie, B3G15 & B6G45 a third number corresponds to the value of the extra offer.

    With effective valuing you can compare the relative prices of a product after accounting for the AirMiles against the same product in another store. For example,

    If Coca-Cola is $2.00 with 10 Airmiles it has an effective value of $0.60 [$2 - (10 x $0.14)]. If another store is selling the same product for $1 you know the effect of the AirMiles beats that price.

    Print off a copy of the following to take comparison shopping.

    SS = Safeway Select
    Saf = Safeway
    Sig =Signature
    Sch = Schneider's
    GMS = Gourmet Meat Shop
    OO = O Organics
    ER = Eating Right
    ML = Maple Leaf
    BC = Betty Crocker
