No AirMiles For Edmonton:
Safeway locks out 350 Edmonton employees
Last Updated: Monday, September 7, 2009 | 7:54 AM MT Comments5Recommend6
CBC News
About 350 Safeway workers were locked out of the company's Edmonton distribution centre and Lucerne ice cream plant as of 6 a.m. Monday.
Douglas O'Halloran, president of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 401, says the grocery retailer is trying to hire 350 non-union replacement workers, a move that is legal in Alberta during labour disputes.
"I think that for the first while they'll have difficulty getting that many scabs to come in and scab the plant," said O'Halloran, who estimates the lockout could last months.
Canada Safeway told the UFCW union on Friday that it would lock out employees after talks broke off between the two sides. Union members rejected the grocery retailer's offer last week by margins of 71 per cent and 76 per cent for the warehouse and ice cream workers respectively.
Employees have been working without a contract since last December. They are asking for improved wages, benefits and work hours.
Safeway has asked full-time employees to work 40 hours a week, up from the 37 hours they work now, said O'Halloran.

Noticed lots of $25 MasterCard boxes at the Foul Bay store.
Unfortunately the deadline was August 31 otherwise the effective cost would have been $9.96 and you'd get a $25 gift card at the same time.

Sorry if it has been asked before. Can people use mfc with the email direct coupon (Not for AM's)? I'm sure it's been asked before but can't remember. Dove would be a great deal for everyone with using both if possible.
