Just had this directed my way on another site by a_1_a:
The new policy is max. 500 AM per day total from all offers, not 500 AM per day and per offer. I.e. if you buy 500AM worth of Coke, then you wouldn't get any AM from Pepsi offer the same day. So that means you won't be able to use the 100AM bonus coupon any more since 500 AM will need 8*60AM or 8*$10= $80. Unless you buy some thing else without AM to make your bill to $100.

Just phoned safeway and they said they are not aware of any policy of limiting the number of bonus airmiles.

Sometimes on the front of the flyer (or in an insert) they have items marked "Extreme Special" with a yellow diamond shape with red writing.
It's usually something like a B2G50 on Royale TP @ $9.99 or $10.99.
Nothing special about it at all as they will put the Royale on sale for $6.99 without AMs so the bonus is worthless.
I very seldom buy the Extreme Specials.
It's a gimmick.

Sent an em,ail to Safeway. They responded and I replied with more information:
Thank You Sara,
As always, customer services from Safeway are the best.
There is great confusion on the Internet about this.
People are reporting a new policy of 500AM on purchases maximum per day net of bonuses like the Spend $100 Get 100 AirMiles offers, etc.
Various people are phoning in to tie this down and what I'm reading is conflicting.
So far there are 3 different interpretations:
1. 500 AM/day maximum (for example 600 on pop would only get 500 AMs credited)
2. 500 AM/item/day maximum (for example 600 on pop + 200 on cereal = 700 bonus (pop only gets 500))
3. 500 AM/day maximum applies only to the "Extreme Value" offers. (for example: 600 on pop + 200 on cereal + 600 on Toilet Paper only gets 600 + 200 + 500 = 1,300 if the Toilet Paper was/is an Extreme Offer)
Your ability to clear this up would be most appreciated.

Excellent News!
You all saw the $5 Safeway Brands Event insert in this week's flyer I hope.
It said nothing about AirMiles.
I was just in Safeway and they are B5G50!!!
Most are $2.50 each but some (ER Kids Juices, Oven Joy Bread & Produce Peeled Carrots) are $1.67
But !!!!!!!!!
Safeway Select Softly Tissues are $1.25 so 5 = $6.25 and you're being paid to shop getting $7 in AMs!
And even better Butcher's Cut Sliced Meats $1 so 5 = $5 and you get $7 worth of AirMiles. This would be a terrific food banker.
Buy $100 worth and get 1,000 AMs + 100 AM bonus = 1,100 = $154 approx. value + $44 tax credit = $198.
So $100 spent gets approx. $198 value elsewhere.
Before doing this, I didn't actually see the B5 on the tissue and the sliced meats. However, every other product on the flyer I did see was marked B5G50 so I assume the same applies. Check it out first though.

Haven't bought yet. Was just scouting. Every product I went by that I knew was on the flyer had a blue B5G50 card on the shelf.
I went for coffee to figure out if it was/is worth while me buying $100 for the bonus. That's when I noticed the tissues and sliced meats on the flyer:
<!-- end of large image --> <!--End display for list view--> <!--End the second tabs section --> <!--Controls: Start--> <!-- Page statistics row -->
I'll load up on pasta, tissues and salad dressing.
