No idea, they look like campaign ads don't they? Perhaps Harper thinks with the current scandal that a new election is upon him and therefore coming out swinging? *shrugs*

Could be because the Conservatives have so much money they can spend a lot on political adds anytime they want. I guess that's a fundamental difference between left and right. The masses on the right fund our representatives, the masses on the left wave signs around to support theirs.

Perhaps the masses on the right can afford in abundance (big business) to fund their representatives, and the masses on the left cannot.

Accepting private funds (amounts allowed, loopholes, etc.) is another electoral issue that needs to be reviewed more in depth.

At least the Conservatives pay for their ads openly. The anti-Tory ads are paid for by union funds funnelled through "charities" like workingfamilies.ca.

You may want to look into allegations toward all parties on not openly paying for their ads. This is not as simple as blaming one party and not another.

Parties will continue to "work the system" until Elections Canada makes clear, detailed and up to date guidelines of funding parties, and private ads.

What I was (very clumsily) referring to were the anti-Tory ads run during the Ontario provincial election by "charities" & the Teachers union.

Agreed. I think we also need stricter controls on attack ads. I've always believed that if you give an individual enough rope, they will hang themselves (for example, my opinion of Bob Rae has nothing to do with the current attack ad, it does have to do with how he ran Ontario back in the day & how little he does for his constituents - yep, he's my MP).

I agree, and my opinion about Bob Rae too was about how he ran Ontario, in fact I didn't know about the ads until after I posted my opinion here yesterday. I guess it's the younger voters they want to enlighten by the ads because us older folk knew already.

I think CONservative is fitting for this particular party personally. However what irritates me is the fact that rebranded themselves "The Harper Government" from "The Canadian Government". Sorry, I won't refer it as such, we live in Canada and not Harperland.

Ahh, conservative scandals are always so much more interesting than liberal ones. Mulroney and his planes Harper and HIS planes, what next?
