How 'bout You? Will you live to 80??

So, I recently picked a new primary care doctor. After two visits and
exhaustive lab tests, he said I was doing "fairly well" for my age. (I just
turned sixty-five).
A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking him, 'Do you
think I'll live to be 80?'

He asked, 'Do you smoke tobacco, or drink beer, wine or hard liquor?'
'Oh no,' I replied. 'I'm not doing drugs, either!'

Then he asked, 'Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?'

'I said, 'Not much.... my former doctor said that all red meat is very
unhealthy!'

'Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, boating, sailing,
fishing, hiking, or bicycling?'
'No, I don't,' I said.

He asked, 'Do you gamble, drive fast cars, shoot dangerous weapons, or have
a lots of sex?'
'No,' I said...



He looked at me and said, 'Then, why do you even give a #*@& ?'

Nope. Just turned 47 beginning of month. Whahhhhh! Sure feel it when I'm gardening. And of course there's all those nasty little wrinkles popping up everywhere. . .what's a girl to do?!!

I can understand why you temporarily thought I was 65, but give up WINE, ribs, steak and SUN? Are you KIDDING me?!!!!

She died at 106 (2010). I felt so bad -- she volunteers for 7 organizations. She rides 7 miles on that bike. Well, guess I have some catching up to do.

There's a fair bit of longevity in my family, but it's so true that having fun during your years is much more important than having more of them... quality over quantity. As long as I'm enjoying myself, I'm game for a long life, but my potential future offspring can abandon me on an ice floe if I'm not able to understand who I am, where I am, or who my loved ones are. (And for the record, I really hope I do have quite a few quality years left )
