I thought about wrapping them up, but they hadn't bloomed yet. I saw chew marks on the stems of 2 other sunflowers and thought it was the "sunflower stem weevil" but it seems it's the squirrels.... I think even if I wrap the future blooms.... they'll just chew below it. Might look into the electronic deterrent a neighbor recommended. Last year's squirrels were cool, I gave them food... they left my stuff alone. Seems this year's buggers didn't get the memo !!

I think maybe I'll just stick a clematis in that area next year.

I just love all the pics from you all!! We did very little this year, bought some stuff for baskets, etc. However out back we have a tree thingy ( I think it is a Hyacinth?) The flowers are so pretty and I had about 6 bloom all at once last week!

Here is a closeup of one

Lovely hibiscus, walkonby! I have a double red flowering one in the house, but it doesn't get enough sun to bloom consistently.

Tbites and Patty, so sad to see the damage the squirrels did on your sunflowers. They are very wily creatures, I've heard...even those "squirrel-proof" bird feeders can't foil them.

Bad squirrels!!! I didn`t know they broke the heads off sunflowers like that. Sure hope it regrows another head.
